Vehicle Detail
For sale at low reserve is my 1986 Fiat Bertone X 1/9. I’ve had this car for 4 years and am selling it because I need the garage space - new 16 year old driver in the house and I need to make room. My first X1/9 was a 70’s era and these 80’s cars are better and sorted out by the time the badge changed from Fiat to Bertone in ’83. Since in my possession, this car has seen no rain or snow (one sprinkle), garaged 100%. The targa top is very cool, stores in the front. This is a fun car to drive, is a head-turner and under-appreciated in the marketplace, IMO. This car is not a pristine flawless #1 show car but is in very good condition. Here are more details: Exterior: The original color of this car was red and it was completely repainted by the previous owner sometime around 2007; it did not have rust prior to this repaint. It is now a two-tone red/orange and grey charcoal and this is a correct factory color combination for this car offered in 1986. Paint is in quite good condition with some minor flaws here and there. This car is straight and appears to have no rust that I can see. Glass appears to be original and in good shape; driver’s door glass has some scratches on it. There is a small paint chip near the driver’s door pillar and scratches behind left rear wheel near wheel well – hard to see. All 4 tires have less than 9k miles on them, less than 8 years old and are in great shape. The wheels on this car are believed to be correct for this year, but not positive, and are in good shape; one has curb rash and they could use a deep clean. The wheels on this car scream “eighties”, are unique, and at least to my eyes, add to the 80’s era look. Interior: Original and in amazing shape. The seats are the original two tone cloth and vinyl combo with no tears or rips. Carpets appear to be original but not sure; they are in very good shape and there is new floormats. I had the seats and carpets professionally cleaned when I got the car. Aftermarket Sony stereo installed with Alpine rears and JBL front speakers all tastefully mounted and not obnoxiously visible. All electronics work – wipers, lights, door lights, door chimes, gauges, etc.. Like every Italian car I’ve owned, including Ferraris, the electric windows work but are slow. No A/C; defrost, fan, heater blow and appear to work fine. Weatherstipping is a bit tired; spare tire is where it should be behind the passenger seat. Trunk has jack; both front and rear storage boots are dry, neat. Engine: Runs great, shifts fine, have never had any major issues in the four years I’ve had it. Always starts. Previous owner put in new clutch. I see no leaks. Last year I noticed that it gradually became a bit louder than before, so I suspect there’s an exhaust leak under there. I didn’t address it because frankly, I thought it almost sounded better being a bit louder. After pulling it out of storage this winter, I noticed the radiator cap was bad, so I ordered a new one from Midwest Bayless ($9.00!). Included is a Fiat Service Manual. Check my feedback – I tell it like it is. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and taxes. Car may be picked up in person. I’m located in western Wisconsin 45 minutes from the Minneapolis St Paul airport. Serious bidders only please.
