Vehicle Detail

This is a very original bike that never suffered the neglect typical of these bikes. It originally was bought by a college professor and ridden by him until 1978, the last year it was registered. It was stored until last year when it was sold at an estate auction. I bought this bike as an interesting winter project since it was the same color and year as my first motorcycle in high school. The original plan was to just get the bike running and replace any missing or broken pieces. Things got a bit out of hand. I ended up tearing the bike down to the bare frame and cleaning/polishing/lubing everything on the bike. The chrome and frame were in amazingly good condition so they were just cleaned and reassembled (see pictures). The engine I got running before disassembly and since it showed good compression, had no funny noises, and ran really well, I did nothing to it mechanically other than a tune up. Several rubber and other miscellaneous parts were replaced by N.O.S. parts, the carb and petcock were rebuilt, and the valves and points were adjusted. After I got the bike back together, it started on the second kick, and I've been enjoying riding it around the neighborhood since. As can be seen in the pictures, the bike shows extremely well, but it is not a concourse restoration. To me that term means every part was replated, rechromed, or repainted, and is in perfect condition. I bought a bike that was in amazing original condition but has some small imperfections like chips, bumps, and tears that are mostly too small to see in pictures, In other words, the bike isn't concouse, although it would present itself very well in a show or make a great pit bike and the originality was preserved as much as possible. I think the most significant cosmetic flaw is the front edge of the seat where it rubs against the tank has a tear. I didn't replace the seat cover because it's not in a conspicuous location, and preserving the originality of the seat was more important. If a picky buyer wants to address this, seat covers are available very reasonably on Ebay. Mechanically, the bike is also in exceptional condition. The brakes, clutch, transmission and engine all work as they should. The headlight (see picture) and horn work fine. I haven't verified the 62 mph top speed but the bike feels fine at 50 mph. For a louder exhaust note, the diffuser can be removed. I have the owners manual too. The bike will be sold with a bill of sale, since Georgia doesn't issue titles on vehicles of this vintage. I will deliver the bike up to 500 miles for a fee of .75/mile. Call me with any questions at 678-570-3986.
