Vehicle Detail

Intro: For your consideration is this one-of-a-kind, presentable, and fun to drive 1962 AMC Rambler Classic two door with numerous AMC themed upgrades. The two door model was offered in 1962 and only about 12,000 were manufactured. Due to this example spending most of its existence down south, it is a very solid car. Odometer shows 45,000 miles which is believed to be original but cannot be verified. An example upgrade on this vehicle is an AMC 401ci engine with dual four barrel carburetors. See below for the complete list of upgrades. This is a get in and go vehicle that is ready to do some cruising. This would make a great addition to an AMC enthusiast’s collection or someone truly looking for a unique automobile that is well sorted. Please view the below photographs and details to get a better idea on just how great this AMC is. Photographs: 98 high resolution images of this Rambler are hosted via PhotoBucket. There is a sampling of pictures below. The rest of the pictures can be seen by copying and pasting the link to the album: http://s1074.photobucket.com/user/OldSkoolFool83/library/1962%20AMC%20Rambler?sort=3&page=1 Images include exterior condition, close ups, interior, engine bay, etc. Please look through all of the images. All were taken within the past month or so. Mechanical Condition: Many upgraded vehicles have numerous issues that need to be worked out or are un-finished projects thus limiting their enjoyment, but this Rambler is complete, well sorted, and ready to cruise. As stated it has many tasteful upgrades, AMC related when possible: -401ci V8 from a 1974 AMC Javelin, rebuilt (with receipts, cam, lifters, rod bolts, valve springs, valve seats, honing, etc.) mild cam, 7qt oil pan, aluminum intake manifold, ported exhaust manifolds -Two Carter 4 barrel carburetors, electric fuel pump -MSD ignition -Upgraded to 3 core radiator -Chrysler 727 automatic transmission, B&M ratchet shifter, transmission cooler -Custom transmission cross-member -2.56 gears from a V8 Spirit -Front disc brakes -Dual exhaust with “hidden” tail pipes, One viewable tailpipe to give impression of being a 6cyl car -30” ladder bars -Tow bars up front -Rear mounted battery with exterior cut off switch -Long wheel studs -15x6 front and 15x7 rims with tires with 90% tread -Tachometer added In addition to a plethora of upgrades, this Rambler has also received plenty of maintenance with service, parts, and receipts related to brake lines, misc. hoses, ignition parts, u-joints, and more. So what is it like to drive? Very pleasant actually! This thing just cruises down the road nice and calmly. When you want to, step on the pedal and it will keep accelerating. If you are looking for an absolute hot rod, the 2.56 gears would probably have to be swapped out for something more all-out acceleration friendly, but then would not be as useable as it is now. This Rambler can be taken out on the freeway and cruise all day at 70 mph no problem at about 2100 rpm. The engine runs strong, has proper oil pressure, and stays at a proper temperature. It of course sounds great. Starts right away when warm. Starts after a couple tries when cold but could be remedied with the chokes hooked up. Transmission shifts great and is strong, no slippage, not in need of attention. Steering is great and not in need of attention. Suspension is great and comfortable. Brakes are good. Blinkers, wipers, headlights, gauges, etc. work. Just get in and drive! Exterior Condition: This Rambler is in presentable cosmetic condition. The finish collectively looks nice. The blue is an AMC paint color and matches this vehicle’s personality well. The lighter blue roof is a nice touch and was an optional paint scheme back in the day. The body work was completed about 12 years ago and does not show much for actual wear. Body panels overall are straight. There are some dings here and there. Passenger fender is fine but not as straight as the other panels. All body panels still match nicely in terms of tint and level of glossiness. The finish is not as glossy as most modern repaints would be but is still presentable and at the very least on par with what was put out from the AMC factory in 1962. The finish overall looks nice and is lacking significant flaws such as orange peel texture, cracks, fading, and etc. Due to being a southern vehicle, the body on this Rambler is impressively solid. There are absolutely no bubbles on the body popping out along the rockers, wheel wells, trunk and hood lips, bottoms of the doors, or other expected areas. Gaps of body panels line up as nice as should be expected by a 1962 Rambler. No evidence of significant rust repair, significant accidents, or significant damage. Doors, hood, and trunk all open and close nicely. The underbody and frame is impressively solid. Floors do not show evidence of repair and do not need any attention. They are clean, dry, and solid. Frame is excellent showing no prior repair nor needing any repair. Trunk area is clean. Engine bay kept original looking (besides the 401 V8 of course!) and is very presentable. The “bright work” and trim is all present, is in presentable condition with some minor dings and scratches here and there. Glass is excellent. Wheels are excellent. Very presentable body in impressive condition for the age. Extremely solid car. Make sure to view the underside photographs and see how solid it is. Body does not need attention. Overall nice presentable “cruiser”. The addition of the “401” emblem below the grille is a subtle touch showing the true nature of this Rambler. Interior Condition: The interior on the Rambler is very original and in impressive condition for the age. Dash area looks great showing some minor wear here and there. The blue paint looks good. Chrome overall is nice and would look real spiffy with some polishing. The steering wheel itself has some of the paint worn off. Headliner is fine. Front seats are fine with a split about 20” long on the passenger side and some wear on the piping. Rear seats are great. Door panels are fine and with close inspection can see they were sprayed. New carpet recently installed. An option this Ramber has is the rear speaker addition. Overall nice condition interior that does not distract from the presentation of the vehicle, instead it aids the presentation. Conclusion: Some extra parts will be included with the sale of this Rambler. Color matched side skirts completely change the personality of the Rambler and make it even more “sleeper” like. Other parts include: grille, extra head lights, head light trim, misc. interior pieces, owner's manual, tail lights, service manual, heater core and blower, extra key locks, ash trays, horns, rear view mirrors, hood, two doors, etc. This Rambler is a very unique automobile that is very well sorted. Just get in, drive, and enjoy! Driving this vehicle is a unique experience. It is great how much response it gets out on the road, at car shows, and when filling up. Then the conversations really get fun when they see the “401” badge, battery cut off switch, and then when you open the hood! Serious buyers with questions or wanting to arrange a showing can feel free to contact me. I am selling this for my brother due to health concerns in their family. Clear title in his name (yes, he is actually my brother, we have the same last name). For questions, please call as I will be able to respond much more quickly and give better details (do not text). Car is located in Lannon, WI which is about 40 minutes from the Milwaukee airport. This Rambler is only listed for sale on Ebay and will be sold only through Ebay.
