Vehicle Detail
This is a nice matching numbers (engine, frame and VIN Sticker) 1982 BMW R100RS. The bike has approximately 49,900 actual miles. I’ve owned it for about six years and put a grand total of about 1000 miles on it since I’ve had it. It is mostly original and generally in good condition - everything works, doesn’t smoke or burn oil that I’ve noticed and starts and runs very reliably even after sitting for months. I bought it to use for a long trip that just never happened and now doesn’t look like it will. Maybe you can fly in and ride it home. I’ve just got too many motorcycles and I don’t use this one enough so it’s got to go. The bodywork is generally quite nice. No dents or dings that I noticed anywhere. There are a few nicks and scratches on the fairing lowers particularly on the rear edges and a scratch on the lower rear right side of the gas tank (see pics), but nothing structural. Paint overall is excellent and shows no fading or oxidizing anywhere I can find. Fenders are in nice condition. Windshield is original BMW in good condition. Looks to me like the hardware (nuts and bolts) is mostly original and in good condition. Seat has no rips or tears and foam is in good condition but it does have some areas on the bottom where the black paint has lifted and some minor surface rust has set in - nothing of consequence, but if I kept it, I’d touch it up with some new paint. Like all of the old RS’, the rubber “boots” between the fairing and the forks are torn (see pics). No big deal, just thought you should know. Tires are a matched set of Continentals with what I’d guess are a couple of thousand miles of tread left. Comes with two original OEM folding BMW keys (ignition, fork and seat lock all match and work - I don’t have a key for the gas cap). Also has a nice OEM tool kit and an OEM Air Pump (see pics). The bike has also had an OEM auxiliary power outlet added to it. Brakes have been upgraded with Stainless Steel braided brake lines both front and back. The previous owner told me he rebuilt both master cylinders and all three calipers with new pads a few thousand miles ago, but I have no receipts to verify, but the pads look good. No weeping anywhere and the brakes work well The discs do show some wear. Also has a billet top triple clamp. All the instruments work, but I have the power to the clock disconnected so it won’t run the battery down or wear the clock out. I purchased a new battery for it several years ago, and it has been kept on a battery tender ever since. It had sat all winter and started right up this spring with no issues, so the battery seems fine. The previous owner told me it has a Thunderchild diode board, but I have never checked. The engine and drive train are in good condition. The heads have been dual plugged with Dyna dual output coils (was like that when I bought it). I did an oil change and spline lube when I got the bike and just did another oil change for the motor and trans. The bike starts easily and runs very well - no smoking leaking or other nasties. Rocker covers aren’t perfect, but they’re still pretty nice. The previous owner told me he had rebuilt the 40mm Bing carbs and installed new diaphragms just before I bought it. Clutch works fine and transmission shifts well. Rear end is a stock 32/11. Note this bike has a factory oil cooler. I will facilitate shipping, but Buyer must make arrangements for pick up. Pick up must be arranged within two weeks of the auction’s end. Better yet, fly in and ride it home. It’s ready. I live near the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport and would be happy to pick you up if you fly in. This is a nice example, but it is a USED motorcycle and it is NOT perfect. It is sold as is where is with NO warranty, NO guaranty or any other kind of ”–ty”. The motorcycle has an Arizona title in my name with no liens so no issues there. If you have questions email me at “wallaman at cox dot net” or call me at (six zero two)-373-one five one four. I’m in Arizona and we’re on California time now (no daylight savings time here).
