Vehicle Detail

For your consideration is my beloved 1970 Dodge Sweptline D100 pickup. We purchased this from a kid a few years back, who worked in an aircraft refurbishing outfit in Long Beach. He had done the bodywork and paint, rechromed the bumpers, and not much else. The body work is so-so – there are a couple spots where you can detect the filler, and there are a couple of small rust spots that are bleeding through the paint. I color sanded the entire truck and buffed with system one which made a huge difference…the paint shines nicely – I would say this is a great paint job for a daily driver, but not show quality. The bumpers have been rechromed as I mentioned, and I had the door handles and tailgate handle chromed, along with the hood latch. The grille, wipers, and aux fuel doors have been professionally polished. All weather-stripping, including front and rear window gaskets, are new with the exception of the vent window weather-stripping. The truck has been lowered by removing springs (all springs come with truck, with coil over shocks in rear and gas shocks up front. The rest of the suspension is stock. The four wheel stock drum brakes have been rebuilt with new wheel cylinders, shoes, and hardware, along with a new master cylinder. It has a 727 Trans, with a shift kit (I believe) in it, and 3.35 gears. The Trans leaks a bit. The motor is a pretty lumpy 360, just built by a professional shop, with less than a couple hundred miles on it. It has 10.5:1 Keith Black pistons, a Comp Cams timing chain set and .275 cam, high volume oil pump, etc. It sounds very mean and nasty through the “Turbo Hot” ceramic-type coated Heddman headers flowing through 2.5 custom exhaust and Flowmasters. The motor has an Edelbrock Air Gap Endurashine manifold and new Street Avenger Holley 670 carb, along with Pertronix Electronic ignition. The radiator has been rebuilt, and has a giant electric fan to supplement the engine fan. The electronic fan kicks on at 195 but since the motor was built it rarely if ever comes on. The motor runs around 180, with 50psi oil pressure or so above 1500 rpm. It has a high torque mini-starter, Accel wires and coil, and Direct Connection valve covers. It has the brackets for a power steering pump and AC compressor. When I got the truck it had working under dash air, but the condenser went bad shortly after. The wheels are custom built Stockton Wheel smoothies, painted center with chrome outers, and the tires have less than 500-600 miles on them. This truck gets driven on Sunday mornings, once a year at Route 66, and to a couple of car shows annually – that’s it. It has original, restored, black California plates. The interior has a re-done bench seat, carpet with custom aluminum sill plates, an am/fm/CD Bluetooth USB stereo, with hidden speakers under the seat along with a powered sub. It has aftermarket power windows and locks. Nice digital gauges sit on top of the dash, which is covered by a nice dash mat. The pad is cracked. Speedo, amp, and fuel gauges work fine. Stock door panels supplemented by carpeted kick panels and lower doors in black. Tinted windows with a new, professionally custom made and installed rear window. Custom made Berlin tonneau cover with snaps on an aluminum ail on top of the bed – it is hinged like a hard tonneau so you can lift it up in the back or just unsnap the tonneau – your choice. This truck runs great, but it does drive like a 40 year old truck – it has a harsh ride, steers and stops safely but like an old truck. I have not really opened up the motor, although it will easily bark the tires on the one-two shift. Before I pushed it too much, I would improve the braking system and probably go through the front end or sub it. I have owned a lot of street rods, and this one by far gets the most thumbs up and “nice truck” comments of any vehicle I have had……very popular with passersby and at car shows….I can almost guarantee you will not another one passing by. I have over $12,000 in this truck, and that is with me doing a large portion of the work myself. Don’t really want to part with it but I need the space. If bid price goes high enough I will include a ton of extras….chrome power steering pump, and just about everything you will need to add power assist steering. Chrome AC compressor. Everything you will need to add power brakes, including proportioning valve, brake pedal rod, and brand new in box master cylinder/booster combo. Extra windshield, back glass, door glass, vent glass. Extra door panel, tons of small items and almost everything you will need to convert to factory, in dash AC including the dashboard itself, evaporator and case, controls, some hoses and lines, etc. Extra tailgate in nice shape, plus a nice set of vintage slotted mags. If the bid price goes high enough, I will include these extras – easily $1,500 worth of extra parts…….. This is a great truck that needs finishing, but is very drivable now, turns heads, and presents well at car shows and cruise nights. It is loud both audibly and visually, and attracts attention wherever it goes. If you want low profile incognito, this truck is not for you. If you want stares and attention, look no farther! Vehicle is for sale locally and subject to prior sale, so bid early, high, and often! NOTE! Wood steering wheel shown in pictures will not come with truck - you will get a chrome/foam Grant GT 3 spoke wheel instead.
