Vehicle Detail

There are 75 photos on Photobucket http://s1283.photobucket.com/user/DonH20Surfer/story/55547 I bought this car in March of 2008 when it had just been restored in Atlanta. The extent and quality of the restoration was reflected in the $21,000 appraisal from Harlan Dahl that I commissioned before buying it. Essentially, everything on the exterior and interior of the car had been replaced with brand new parts. Please look at the pictures on Photobucket to see that appraisal. The odometer shows 80,500 and that matches the records over the lifetime of the car, which I have dating back to the 1980s. The restoration was done 4,100 miles ago. With a previously rebuilt engine, replaced transmission and all the cosmetic and mechanical restoration shown below, this is more like a 10,000 to 15,000 mile car. It is originally from the West Coast and never saw snow or salt and that is why it is 99.99% rust free. It remained there until 2005. It was restored in the summer and fall of 2007 and I bought it right after that. I have put 4,100 miles on it in 5 years It has always been garaged and has never been driven in rain since the restoration. It has never been on anything but public highways (no track time) since I have had it. I try to run it once a week to keep everything lubricated and it is completely babied. A small area of rust bubble has come up just behind the left front wheel well - - shown in the photos. Trunk and floors are solid. The big difference between this car and "barn finds" and cars that are "original" is that everything has been gone through and nearly everything has been replaced. The replacements have been upgrades - - even the dash was upgraded http://www.prestigeautowood.com/triumph_gallery.htm . The paint is better than factory paint and the car has been a prize winner at show. As a member of one of the best Triumph clubs in America, I see owners every week who have to chase down and repair things in an increasingly aging fleet. If this car were 100% original, all the parts would be 39 years old. For my money, I would rather have the peace of mind that something big isn't going to fail when I take it on a weekend romp. I had experience with German cars and I wanted to make this TR6 brake like a Porsche, if possible, so we got to work on the big front brakes http://prirace.com/page/triumph-tr6-big-brake-kit and upgraded rear drums. All the brake, suspension and frame work was done with the past-president of the Triumph Club of the Carolinas, Paul Morro, who is also known for his “MorroBuilt” engines for TR6s and TR250s. He has restored many TR-250s and TR6s. When we got the brakes done, I was driving it and felt what seemed like too much “rear-wheel steering.” So we went back under the car and saw that the diff mounts - - a weakness in TR6s - - were broken. If I were buying an old TR-6 I would certainly make sure the diff mounts are OK. We put in a TSI Differentialcradle/frame stiffener kit http://www.tsimportedautomotive.com/tr250_tr6.html This fixes the broken part as well as upgrades the mounting points to prevent it from happening again. Also, we decided to put in a coil-over system from Roadtronics Automotive Technologies Company (RATCO.) https://www.sites.google.com/site/tonyratco/shock-in-coil ) We also put in upgraded front and rear axles http://www.goodparts.com/shop/index.php?categoryID=20 All of this would support a V8 conversion that has not happened. I like stereos so I assembled a combination of a head unit and power amps that can be heard over the noise of the car and road. A little overkill perhaps but it looks subtle. The person who owned it before me left it in better shape than he got it and I have done the same thing. This is an amazing, honest car. When taken to shows, it really “pops” and when driving around town the smiles and thumb-ups are a kick.
