Vehicle Detail

A rare unrestored machine. FB Mondial 1953 200cc push rod "Sport" model. ID numbers frame and motor 1293. Titled and licensed in Oregon. Running nicely. No smoke, no oil loss. Shifts and brakes well. Runs straight and true. Sale includes original "Owners Manual" (rare) in Italian. Seat is newly built by seller. OEM seat on original bike unknown. Typically a single saddle. But this is best guess. Mufflers are new. Seller built and installed a speedo drive. Original production Mondials ---probably--- did not have a speedo in the nacelle. Lights (front, tail) and horn working nicely.. The bike has a spark retard lever on left and choke on right. Shift pattern is 1st up, down N, 2,3,4) The patina and cycle parts wear is original. Original carbs (renewed) and wire harness (see spark plug!) Unknown: mileage (KM's) and mechanical maintainence history prior to my ownership. Some history for viewers: FB (Italian Frattelli Boselli, english Brothers Boselli). Probably the smallest motorcycle production company in Italy with no more than 30,000 bikes built during about 10 years of production. Grand Prix factory race team 1949-1957. 10 world championships: 5 manufacturers and 5 rider championships (125cc; '49,'50,51,'57; 250cc; '57). Ceased racing after '57 season. Mondial race team enginers Guiseppe Pattoni (PAT) and Lino Tonti (TON) formed the speciality race bike builder company PATON from 1958. Mondial produced 1st 125 double overhead cam race motor from 1948. 1st MV Agusta 4 stroke motor was designed using a Mondial motor as a model. Fabio Taglioni was a Mondial engineer and director of the Mondial race team 1950-1953 and moved to Ducati in 1954. Soichiro Honda requested to buy from Mondial and acquired a 1956 DOHC 125 motor which he used as a model to influence the design of Honda's first race bikes. FB Mondial is the only non Honda motorcycle marque displayed in the Honda museum in Japan. Crate $350. Offered elsewhere.
