Vehicle Detail

Nice 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible With Rare Black Leather Interior Up For Auction With NO RESERVE First year for the Eldo convertible. 59k, 500 8.2 Liter V8. Always garaged, purchased from second owner who has owned it since 1988. The 1971 Eldo has the pre-emissions high compression 500 V8 (rated at 365 hp), lots of torque and quick acceleration for such a big car. The 1972 model year dropped the horsepower considerably and the horsepower dropped with each new model year. The 1971 Eldo is the only 70's Eldorado with a satisfying pedal response, it can lay rubber if accelerated hard! My new project is an Allante (different, but still a Caddy) and the Eldo's gotta go. Mechanically: I haven't done that much, she's been in the garage most of the time waiting for attention. The Caddy has a new muffler, engine runs nice and quiet. Last summer I did a full tuneup, new front brakes, new accelerator pump for the carb, and four new all season radial tires. I bought the Caddy in Spring 2010 from an older gentleman in Connecticut who took decent care of the car, had it garaged, then had to sell due to poor health. He owned it since 1988 and told me the mileage is original. I've only put about 1000 miles on the Caddy since I've had it. Front power windows work well, rear windows and convertible top need a little help going up. It's not visible in the pix but the top has a couple of tears, both in the same area- behind the rear windows where the roof pulls tight. The top was actually replaced about 10 years ago but the canvas has dried out. It can be used as is but it will eventually need replacing, the optional glass window can be reused (they cost way more and are easier to see through than the plastic window). Power seat works but drains the battery if you leave the circuit breaker plugged in on the fusebox. I move the seat when necessary and reach under the dash and then unplug one side of the breaker, it's quick and easy. The heat and defroster work properly, the a/c compressor turns on but doesn't blow cold. The Caddy had an aftermarket cassette player installed in the 80's which I removed (it's a shaft radio, nothing was cut). I got a 70's era AM/FM Caddy stereo off Ebay which I never installed, I will include both the cassette stereo and the GM radio. Cosmetically: The Eldo is very dusty both inside and out in the pix, I didn't get a chance to wash it. The car was painted in 2005 in a nice metallic burgundy but has dulled, the paint would really wake up with a compounding. The passenger skirt has a spot of body repair towards the front where it meets the fender about 2 inches long. Otherwise the body is straight and clean, not even any slight bubbling in the paint even in the common areas like at the bottom of the rockers and behind the wheel wells. The floors and frame are solid, never patched, one small (12x12) area of the trunk floor must have gathered water at some point, it's been patched with sheet metal. My mechanic said it's not an issue because the spot is not near the body mount. When he first put the Caddy up on the lift he was amazed at how clean it is underneath, he thinks the 59k is original mileage considering the overall condition. The interior is in decent original shape. The black leather was one of the things that attracted me to the Eldo, I'd never seen a black leather interior on one of these cars. The bottom of the passenger front seat has one open seam as seen in the pic, otherwise the leather is intact but needs a good cleaning and conditioning. The dash is in nice original shape, nothing broken or cracked. The door panels had cracks on the armrests which I covered, you can buy replacement aftermarket door panel sections on Ebay now for $75 apiece. I had new carpet installed at the bottom of the door panels, looks sharp. The passenger door lock plunger fell inside the door, needs to be clipped back on inside the door, does not interfere with operation. The carpet is worn and could use replacing as well as the rubber moldings on the sides of the windshield. Doors close easily and tight, no slamming necessary, hood and trunk line up perfectly. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly. Engine starts easily, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Runs very strong, tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly with the front disc brakes, no pulling or fading. She idles well, shifts smoothly, stops easily and the suspension is luxurious. Drives overall like a Caddy should. She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work as well as the horn and wipers. I bought it because the 1971 convertibles are so hard to find, especially with black leather. VIN is 693671Q407368. Overall a very original classic, a true "survivor". She's a great candidate for restoration or drive as is. Trivia: As seen in the pic at the bottom, a '71 Eldo was Woody Harrelson's Gangstermobile in the recent movie "Seven Psychopaths". They beat the hell out of the poor Caddy then riddle it with bullets. Good flick, tho! Nice classic Caddy which will only appreciate in value!
