Vehicle Detail
2005 Subaru Forester XT This vehicle has received personal care by a mix of professionals, one of them being me! I have documentation for all improvements and repairs. I am the second owner of this wagon, and have service records from the dealer that serviced it before my ownership. I think you will find that this is not your typical wagon on e-Bay. It is a perfect balance of improved creature comforts and performance improvements. There certainly is room for more tweeks, should you choose. Many photos in the gallery are from improvements mid-process that I have made. The following is a list of those improvements, following that is a list of the standard features that come with this amazing vehicle. And when I say amazing, your first drive down a twisting road, or that same road covered in a foot of snow will tell you just how special a vehicle this is. It’s boxer engine and legendary Subaru reliability will give you many years of flawless driving. An exhaustive (exhausting?) list of improvements/vehicle details: · Replaced spark plugs @ 66,000 miles with NGK Platinum Plugs (good for 100k miles) · Replaced Cabin Air Filter @ 91,000 miles · Replaced all aluminum heat shields on exhaust header manifold (due to rust/vibration) at 66k miles · Sand-Blasted and re-coated exhaust headers with heat-reducing coating · Replaced O2 sensor at 66K miles (upper) · Replaces several mount brackets that were rusting in engine bay (power steering, PCM, brake line routing) · I replaced the oil pan and dipstick, which were rusting. I used Permatex Black instead of the regular OEM gasket to ensure zero leakage. · Every oil change was done with synthetic oil (Mobil 1) at 3750k miles or less · Replaced OEM stereo and speakers with 7 speaker system and Kenwood Head Unit. Head unit has USB connect for iPod in glove box. Bluetooth hands-free phone pairing with microphone at sunglasses holder. Head unit also supports Bluetooth streaming, flash drive, XM satellite and HD radio. · Speakers: Polk Audio separates with cross over in front doors, Alpine 5” speakers in rear doors, JL Audio 8” subwoofer custom mounted in spare tire recess. · Entire interior was removed, RAMMAT installed in all doors, hatch, floor and pillars. This was coated with a layer of Ensolite on all doors, hatch and floor. See photos. Sound deadening was installed inside the quarter panels. This makes this car quieter than any Forester on the market! · In addition, I reduced wind-noise by inserting ¼ vinyl tubing in all the door rubbers to form a tighter seal against the windows and adjusted the side mirror gussets inward, a common noise complaint in these models. · This audio system is powered by two amps, a 4x70 Alpine under the driver’s seat, a 1x250 MTX amp powering the sub. Between the crossovers, amp controls and Kenwood head unit sound-shaping, this is the most beautiful sounding system I have ever heard. I just bought a 2013 TSX with the ELS sound system people rave about- this is better. · Back to the engine, I have had this mapped, stage one on a Cobb AccessPort. It added 25hp to the already spunky 210 hp OEM output. Approx 235 hp total (never on dyno), with improved MPG (not great, but it’s a 4WD Turbo, I get a combined city/hwy of 20 mpg, 22 hwy, 19 city). · Removed prop rod in engine, installed Subtle Struts · I installed 17” WRX wheels matching the color of the door appliqué’s. The wheels are slightly heavier than the stock 16” wheels, and you can feel the difference. Installed on these rims are a set of fantastic 235/50r17 Continental Extreme Contact All-Season High-Performance tires that were purchased 2010. · At the same time, I purchased, and is included in the bid, a set of Firestone Wide Oval 235/50r17 Summer Max-Performance tires (directional). It is an amazing jump in traction and cornering. I swap them out every season. · I had a 4 Wheel Alignment done to increase Camber for better cornering. Spec sheet included. The car drives straight, cornering vastly improved. · I just recently installed a Perrin 24mm sway bar for the front, accompanied by Perrin end links. They are set to the stiffest setting and the change is dramatic in flattening the curves and G-force capabilities. · A maintenance issue, and look it up on Google, that happens to these Foresters. I replaced the RR Wheel Bearing. A $400.00 maintenance issue out of the way. · Additional parts not installed but included in the price: 4 High-Performance Tires (mentioned, but worth repeating as it gives you tires for the next 100k miles if rotated properly!), a SPT cold-air intake kit, and a Perrin Blow-off Valve (BOV). The last two items will increase your horsepower by 15-20hp. Additional mapping/waste gate adjustments recommended. Full Disclosure Having said all the goodies this Forester comes with, no need to research the CarFax report. I will tell you. I have had 3 insurance claims with this car since I have owned it. One, someone slid into my LR door during a snowstorm. Instead of repairing the door, I replace it myself and had an excellent shop, FineLine Collision, Carlisle PA do the paintwork. I also, at that time, removed all the minor imperfections on the entire driver’s side. A month later, someone let a shopping cart cause a small dent in the LR quarter. It is still there. Later, I was in a minor rear-end collision. I got paid to replace the bumper cover, but did not do this. There is a minor impression in the rear cover, see photo. The final claim was from a little girl opening her car door into my RR car door. It is the size of a dime. Outside of these incidents, there has been NO major accidents with this vehicle. I owned, ran and worked in body shops all my life. This car is in better shape than 95% of vehicles with this age/mileage. The interior is nearly flawless. Now, what is coming for you as the future owner of this vehicle. The timing belt will need replacement at 110k. This is a $400-500.00 job. The brakes on this vehicle are not bad, but will need replacement in the next 10k miles. The struts have never been replaced, but show no signs of leaking, or porposing on the road. They are as responsive as the day I purchased the vehicle. It has passed both emissions and inspection in the State of Pennsylvania in March of this year.
