Vehicle Detail

1959 TRIUMPH TR3A You are viewing a very rare "time warp" example of a 1959 Triumph TR3A with factory "overdrive" and wire wheels. Vehicle # TS61141LO. The Triumph has 37,656 original miles and has been garaged stored it's entire life. The Triumph had been stored for the last 22 years until this past year. It is a rustfree example. I will be adding additional pictures within the next day or so. Please read the entire description completely as I have done my best to describe the TR3 as accurately as possible. Keep in mind that this a 50 year old vintage sports car and is not a perfect example. I will describe any imperfections or issues that I am aware of as well as any other important details. I purchased the Triumph from an older gentleman that had purchased the Triumph in 1984. Documents show that the previous owner's purchased the Triumph in March of 1973 with 33,000 miles and indicates that the TR3 originally came from California. They used the Triumph for some sunny day drives and put very few miles during their ownership. When the Triumph was sold in 1984 the new owner whom I purchased it from used the Triumph as his weekend fun car once again using it on only the nicest sunny days putting on very few miles. Around 1990 he decided he wanted to give the Triumph a bit of a refresh, and proceeded to take the car apart (frame on) with plans to have it repainted. He told me that the when he had it painted, it required pretty much no body work at all. I was told there was no rust repair either and that the Triumph has never had any rust repair that he was aware of. There is no evidence of body filler or previous repairs that I can detect. The Triumph still retains it's original floors as well as the original panels. When the Triumph was painted (over 20 years ago) it was given a "driver" quality paint job. They weren't considered that collectible back then, so the goal was not a concours restoration. The goal was to have a very nice example which as the pictures show was clearly accomplished. After the paint job, all new metal fender trim for each fender was installed as well as a new gasket for the windshield. That was pretty much as far as he got, like many projects, work, family & kids meant that the Triumph would stay covered in the garage for the next 20 years or so. The Triumph was started a few times each year to keep everything in operating condition. As you can see in the pictures, the body looks very nice. There is no body damage and absolutely no rust. As I was told, the rocker panels are all original as well showing the correct factory rocker seems. The trunk and spare tire well are also perfect and rustfree as well. The grill is in very nice shape and the chrome is in nice condition as well. The gas cap does show some pitting. The frame/undercarriage is in excellent condition with no rust or previous rust repair. The frame and undercarriage has been painted with Por 15 and looks fantastic as shown in the pictures. There are some spots where the paint has been touched up. As stated the floors are all original and in excellent condition. As you can see in the pictures, the interior is in excellent condition. The interior underwent a partial refresh which consisted of recovering the dashboard and cockpit trim as well as a new carpet kit. The seats and door panels are all original and show some nice patina. The passenger side seat shows some staining to the seat which I believe is from having a cardboard box stored on it. I was able to clean it up a bit, but could use some further cleaning. The Triumph still retains the factory original "banjo" steering wheel. The wheel does have a stress crack at one of the spokes which has been taped. It still has the original "foam" style shift knob which is quite rare to find. The fine print: If you have 5 or less feedback transactions, you must contact me prior to bidding. A non-refundable deposit of $1000.00 is due within 24 hours of the auction end. If the deposit is not received, the Triumph will be offered to the next highest bidder. The balance is due within 7 days of the auction end date. The car must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date. A $10.00 per day storage fee will be charged after the 10 days unless prior arrangements have been made. I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale. My 100% feedback rating speaks for itself, so bid with confidence. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. I will consider ending the auction early for the motivated buyer that would like to make a serious offer. I do reserve the right to end the auction early. On Mar-18-13 at 22:20:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Mechanically the Triumph is in excellent condition. The engine runs strong with oil pressure at 60 lbs at idle as shown in the picture. Engine compression was tested at 150 PSI per cylinder. The engine runs strong and sounds excellent with no strange noises. No smoke out of the exhaust either. Cold starting has been a bit finicky after not being started for a while, but once warm, starts at the turn of the key. I believe that the carbs will need a little bit of tweaking in regards to the cold starting. Brakes work fine, however they have not been refreshed. Clutch works good and has a new slave cylinder. Gearbox feels fine and shifts as it should. I did not have an opportunity to test the overdrive, but was told it was working properly prior to storage. Blinkers, horn, turn signals and lights are all working properly. Speedometer needle seems to be sticking, but the odometer is working properly. New parts that have been installed: 1. Metal fender beading 2. Carpet 3. Dash knobs 4. Rear bumpers (small ding on left bumper) 5. Radiator cardboard cardboard duct 6. Coolant hoses, thermostat & radiator cap 7. Windshield gasket 8. Blinker & tailight rubber gaskets 9. "Triumph" letters and "badge" for nose of the car 10. "Triumph" badge for the trunk 11. Trunk mat 12. Oil change & filter 13. Slave cylinder & hose 14. Interior trim pieces recovered including the dashboard 15. Glove box (needs install) 16. Oil pressure hose for gauge (needs install) 17. Air filter assys 18. Hood and trunk hinges. Known issues: Heater motor has been restored, but was not installed, but will be included. OD has not been checked out. Has restored wire wheel for the spare, but does not have a tire. Paint is "driver" quality - It does not have a mirror finish like a concours paint job would. Some misc. spots received some paint touch up. Braided oil line for oil pressure gauge needs to be replaced, the old one is leaking a bit. Carbs will need some adjustment. New glove box needs to be installed. Speedometer needle seems to be sticking. Throwout bearing a little bit noisy. Lastly, when I had the door caps recovered, I had some issues reinstalling them. I think the new materials made it slight too big for the driver's side, and as a result I was not able to install it correctly (it is not screwed in). The workmanship was fantastic, using correct materials, but as mentioned, it will need some further fitting. Misc: The Triumph comes with the original convertible top (black) and the original side curtains. The top frame is also included. It also comes with a full tonneau cover and top boot as shown in the pictures. An original set of factory seatbelts are included as well. As stated, I have done my best to describe the Triumph to the best of my ability. I am sure I may have missed something - ask any questions that may not have been addressed. On Mar-18-13 at 22:31:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Please keep in mind that the Triumph has only been driven a few times since being stored, and the potential buyer should be aware of this. The suspension and brakes have not been rebuilt since being stored, however as stated, the brakes do work fine, and the suspension does not exhibit any obvious issues. As with all british cars, it does mark it territory with some oil. Comes with the original keys and a clear Michigan Title. Also, if there are some specific pictures that you would like to see, let me know. I will be updating the auction with additional pictures and any additional information that I may have missed. On Mar-21-13 at 18:13:31 PDT, seller added the following information: On Mar-21-13 at 20:00:52 PDT, seller added the following information: On Mar-22-13 at 12:12:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that the Triumph also comes with a "log book" that documents the ownership from 1973-1979. The book also documents previous ownership tracing back to it's origin in California. The entries in the log book consist of work performed on the Triumph as well as the notes about specific days the Triumph was taken out for a ride including what the weather was for that day. On Mar-22-13 at 12:16:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Keep in mind that this TR3A has factory "Overdrive" which makes this TR3 a very special example. Very few that are offered today have this rare factory option as noted in the Vin tag. This option adds extra value to this car as compared to non overdrive cars or cars that have had overdrive added to a non factory optioned car.
