NO RESERVE - 1971 Lincoln Mark III up for auction. Ultra-Rare Sliding Sunroof / Moonroof 'Sure-Track Braking System' Model Ultra-rare factory black Lincoln Mark III for sale with moonroof option, less than 200 made. Very few moonroof equipped models were produced, especially in black. The Mark III was a very popular offering from Lincoln. "Power was from a new 365 horsepower, Ford 460 cubic-inch V8 that drove the 117.2-inch wheelbase. The car was priced at $6,865 making it the most expensive car in Ford's lineup. The interior was elegant and comfortable, with twin comfort lounge front bench seat and dual center armrests. In 1971 the 460 cid V8 engine gained a more sophisticated thermostatic air cleaner assembly with its associated ductwork (the equivalent of a modern cold air intake). An optional 'Sure-Track Braking System' was introduced mid-year." These Mark III's are almost impossible to come by in good original condition, information at this link: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z14468/Lincoln-Continental-Mark-III.aspx Trivia: a customized 1971 Lincoln Mark III was the star in the 1977 movie "The Car" Options on this Mark include 'Sure-Track Braking System' (early ABS system), power sliding moonroof (a $459 option in 1971), climate control with air conditioner, front disc brakes, power windows, locks, dual front power seats, genuine wood inlays on dash and door panels, cruise control, tilt wheel, AM/FM stereo system with four speakers (two on the doors, two on back deck), intermittent wipers, Cartier clock and rear fan blower defrost / power ventilation with air extractor passages below rear window. This link has a list of standard and optional features (my Mark III has many of the optional features): http://www.eldorado-seville.com/MarkIII/options/ Mechanically: over the last couple of years the Lincoln got a complete dual exhaust system from the engine back, done right with all pipes welded and Flowmaster mufflers, she has a nice, quiet "purr" to the engine and a low growl out the back. Other work done since I've owned the car (I've had it for almost three years, I'm the third owner) was a power steering pump, water pump, rebuilt carburetor and basic maintenance, oil changes, tuneup, brakes, etc. The a/c system works, compressor turns on when you set the climate control but doesn't blow fully cold; if you can get some of the old style freon it just needs a a small charge or you can retrofit the system. The power sunroof works well, opens and closes easily with the switch (I usually help it a little anyway). No leaks from the sunroof, just a drip or two when you're going through a car wash or caught in heavy rain. The cruise control works intermittently, I think the contacts on the switch need cleaning. The AM/FM stereo works perfectly, great reception and all four speakers were replaced so for an old factory stereo it sounds pretty good! I use the Ipod radio transmitter that plugs into the lighter, available on Ebay for $15 including a handy remote. The power antenna does not work, it can be put up and down manually. The Cartier clock does not work. The headlight doors open and close properly, the driver's side headlight door started opening recently after the engine is turned off (a vacuum line needs replacing). The driver's window motor was replaced as well ($250 from Lincolnland.com and I had to send back the core), works nice and fast, passenger window sometimes needs a little help going up. The small back quarter windows don't go down, I never looked into it because they're so small. The driver's and passenger seat motors work in all directions (three switches each) but sometimes a couple of the switches need to be pushed a few times to work (opening the switch and cleaning the contacts would fix it). All the glass is in great shape, no scratches or fogging on the windshield. Cosmetically the Mark is very presentable, still wears her original paint which still shines up nicely. The lines on the car are totally straight, doors, trunk and hood close easily, no slamming necessary. The brightwork is very nice, the chrome is a bit dull. The driver's side rear bumper corner end is starting to peel. Fortunately it's a separate part, I've seen them on Ebay for $50-$75. Otherwise the bumpers are straight and solid. The bottom of the passenger rear quarter had a small patch put in at some point, looks to be 6 inches long and two inches wide and the bottom lip of the trunk lid is showing slight bubbling, only visible up close. Otherwise the trunk, floors and frame are rock solid, my mechanic said it appears have to been undercoated when new. The interior is in good original condition, seats are nice, no cracks in dash, headliner perfect including sunroof headliner, door panels good, some light cracking on the steering wheel, visors good, slight warping on driver's door armrest, genuine wood inlays on dash and doors close to perfect. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly with no wandering, shaking or vibration; she's a real Road Queen. Engine starts easily even after sitting, doesn't leak anything, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Runs very strong, 460 V8 puts out loads of torque, moves this old girl up the highway easily while tracking straight as an arrow. The Lincoln handles well for such a big car. She idles evenly, shifts smoothly, brakes quickly with no pulling and the suspension is luxurious. The 120k on the odometer is the original mileage as far as I know, my mechanic thinks it's genuine from the sound of the motor and overall condition. Drives overall like a classic luxury cruiser should. She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work as well as wipers and horn. VIN is 1Y89A851694. Very few factory black 1971 Lincoln Mark III's around, much less with the power moonroof. I'm selling her because I found a 1978 Mark V- it's also got the 460 V8 but it's a "smogger", the '71 leaves it in the dust! Any questions feel free to call or email. 914-224-3230 Rare classic Lincoln which will only appreciate in value! mark 4, mark iv, mark v, mark 5, mark v, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978 On Mar-19-13 at 12:30:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention the Mark comes with two interior color matched Lincoln deep pile front floor mats. They're not in the photos because I wanted to show the condition of the carpet. Good luck bidding!
