Vehicle Detail
This 1989 Ford Country Squire LX wagon is an original, unrestored, and unmolested example in exceptional condition. It still wears its original paint which is amazingly nice. The car was bought new in Arizona and has spent its whole life here and as a result there is absolutely no rust anywhere. The wagon has always been owned by retirees and has been carefully maintained and never abused. I have always liked station wagons and last year when some retired friends of ours decided to sell their Country Squire, I was happy to take it off their hands. The car had stayed in the same household all of its life here in Payson Arizona and was always well taken care of. These later "woody" wagons are getting harder and harder to find and nice ones are becoming increasingly rare and valuable. Unfortunately, my present situation requires that I reluctantly have to sell this one so here is an opportunity for you to own a modern day classic. This Country Squire is finished in its original Light Almond paint which, with the woodgrain, makes for a very classy and striking appearance. I get compliments on her all the time. The wagon has the top of the line "LX" package and is equipped with virtually every option including: automatic climate control, dual power and reclining seats, premium sound, tilt wheel, cruise control, power windows and locks, power mirrors, tripminder computer, dual facing rear seats, cast aluminum wheels, cornering lamps, and the optional pivoting vent windows which were discontinued after 1989. The engine is the 5.0 liter V8 with sequential port fuel injection and the car has the optional dual exhaust that gives it 10 extra horsepower. In addition, the wagon has the optional "K" rear axle which I was told is the rare 3.55 traction-lock axle, all of which makes the car responsive and fun to drive. Most of the original 93,000 miles were highway miles put on driving between Payson and Phoenix. Since these cars have a reputation of going 300,000 miles before needing any major work, this wagon should have many trouble free miles left in it. As I mentioned before, I have always liked wagons and have owned several over the years. This car's 3-way tailgate opens and closes easier than any other wagon I have ever owned. The tailgate shuts as easy as the side doors with no need to slam it like most others. A well engineered car. As you can see from the pictures, this Country Squire is in exceptional condition. As you would expect, there are a few flaws that have occurred over the years. There are a few parking lot dings in it and the stainless rocker moldings both have a small crease in them. The left front bumper plastic surround has a scrape in it (which was touched up) and the leading edge of the woodgrain surround in that area was partially flattened out. This occurred in a parking lot and was the "accident" reported by Autocheck. The woodgrain itself is original and has some cracks and fading but still looks very good as you can see. I refinished the woodgrain surrounds since they were peeling like they all do. The exhaust is original and is in good shape except for the tailpipes which have some condensation holes in them. The original owner's mechanic replaced the rear air shocks with conventional units but the air pump and so on are all in place if you want to go back to original. Finally, the power antenna stopped working. To my knowledge, everything else works including the air conditioning system, power seats and mirrors, cruise control, radio, power windows and locks (including the tailgate) and so on. In this day of cookie cutter minivans and suvs, it is nice to find an affordable classic that brings back good memories and smiles to all those who see it. In addition, it is nice to drive a car that is going up in value instead of depreciating every year. This Country Squire is smooth and drives great and I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. It is located in Payson, Arizona (zip 85541) which is about 75 miles northeast of metro Phoenix. I will assist the new buyer in any way I can in getting the car shipped and can recommend a shipper who is a friend of mine who tends to be very reasonable in his rates. Please note that although I do not have the wagon advertised locally, I do reserve the right to end the auction early if bidding is sluggish so please do not wait until the last minute to bid to avoid finding the auction closed. Finally, although I have done my best to accurately describe the car, it is, of course, sold as is with no warranty. Please feel free to email or call with any questions you may have. I can generally be reached most afternoons and evenings at 928-468-7060. Thanks for looking.
