What we have here is a genuine 1942 Volkeswagen Kubelwagen Military staff car in need of total restoration. All parts are available from various reliable European distributors which we would be happy to provide contact details for. The vehicle was recently found in a barn by a farmer in Austria and shows the original VIN tag, VIN# and body number. As a result the vehicle comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Volkeswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, Germany. It is an late 1942 Kubelwagen and was originally ordered by the Heereszugambt in Kassel, Germany. it still retains the faint eagle markings on the rear hood (see photo). On Mar-11-13 at 08:17:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to the amount of interest that we have received on this vehicle we would like to clarify a few points. Floor pan / Chassis – Manufactured by VolkswagenNumber 2-014 054 The number on the dating letter equates to the floor pan/chassis manufactured by Volkswagen and is genuine 22.12.1942. The number is 2-014 054. This is the chassis number. Body – Manufactured by Ambibudd Presswerk Berlin Number 29651 The body number 29651 we realise is later but is genuine 1943. It is not uncommon for a modification such as this to be done it a Wehrmacht field workshop or at a later date. As written by Jochen Vollert in the book Kubelwagen on all Frontlines, and I quote "It needs to be noted that shortages in materials (especially from 1944 onwards) and 'inventive repairs' by field workshops might well have disrupted the timeline of features e.g. early parts may show up again on late vehicles / late parts may have been fitted to overhauled early vehicles on rare occasions."We also understand that all of the running gear (engine trans-axle and front suspension, brakes, steering column, gear box etc..) is post-war. It has to be understood that this rare vehicle is for sale in a "as found" condition. There are bound to have been some incorrect post-war work done - that's why we have listed it as in need of total restoration and the reserve price reflects this. If the vehicle came with all the correct equipment then this would be reflected in the sale price.
