Vehicle Detail
1968 Dodge Charger (XP29F8B148xxx) 383c.i., auto 727 transmission (was orig. 318 auto), original factory/dealer certi-card, factory buildsheet, fender tag, original QQ1 Electric Blue Metallic, factory power steering, power disc brake kit (Master Power kit), white trunk stripe, bucket seats, center buddy seat/arm rest, hood mounted turn signals, light package (A01), 8 ¾ rear end, 3.91 posi diff., 22” radiator, factory thumb wheel AM radio, all new black interior, factory 15”painted steel wheels, dual exhaust with factory chrome tips and H-pipe. All the body numbers match on the radiator support, trunk lip, fender tag, certi-card, buildsheet and the VIN tag. The Charger was delivered new to Philomath, Oregon and also spent some time in California. I have some previous owner history on the Charger as well! The Charger has been restored and is super nice from front to back. The drivetrain, front/rear suspension, engine bay, trunk, interior, gas tank, rear end, brake lines, bumpers, tires/wheels, dash cluster, all wiring and undercarriage have all been restored to a very high quality restoration. This awesome Charger was painted a few years ago and was only driven on nice days to shows and cruises. A restoration of this caliber takes a lot of time, patience and money to be done correct. Please understand this is not your average “driver” condition Charger! I would call a very nice driver and a great car to take to the shows, but it is not a trailer queen show car. I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 25 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. PAINT, BODY AND FRAME The body is extremely straight and clean and in excellent shape. The trunk floor, doors, floor boards, quarters and fenders are all in great shape and are believed to be original. The very lower rear quarters have had some small work done and look excellent (no sign of any bad body work). Even the trunk extensions are original and still have the factory drain plugs in both sides. The frame is in excellent shape and the undercarriage is very clean and neat with no rust. The original undercoat was also in excellent shape and was freshened up with a paint grade black coating. The factory QQ1 blue paint was done around 2004 and still looks absolutely stunning! The trunk and engine bay were just painted last summer. Overall the paint is in very good condition for a very nice higher end driver and occassional show car. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 40 hours and the finish shows it! There are only a few small chips that were brush touched and look fine. There is also one mark under the passenger side front bumper that was touched up and one small spot on the end cap of the driver’s side quarter panel (both about the size of a quarter). The door jams are very nice and clean and you can see the factory seems all the way around the edges. The complete show condition engine bay was just refinished from top to bottom including the underside of the hood. The inside of the trunk was also just painted. PLEASE CHAD AT 412-496-1439 AND I WILL BE GLAD TO DO A COMPLETE WALK AROUND OF THE CHARGER IF YOUR A SERIOUS BUYER! GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM The front windshield and gasket are new and look great. The rest of the glass is in very good condition for factory glass! There are only a few very small hard to see scratches on the sides and back glass. The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed and are in excellent condition. The door handles, driver’s side remote mirror and flip-up gas cap are in very nice original shape. The antenna, door lock cylinders and the bumperettes are new. The trim pieces are super clean and were polished for optimum shine. The front grill has been restored and looks beautiful (there are 2 small cracks near the lower center of the grill). The original taillights were also restored and look super nice! The original wing vent window chrome is extremely nice with no pits in the chrome like most! INTERIOR The black interior is in super nice shape and has been restored. Some new items are the carpet, speaker shelf, trunk divider, sill/scuff plates, seat covers, seat foam, dash cluster from Auto Instruments, new 5 piece dash fascia kit, headliner, glove box liner, sun visors, arm rest pads, arm rest chrome bezels, window cranks, door panels door and roof rail weatherstripping. The dash pad is in very nice shape and only has a small crack in the center area. All factory gauges work and operate correctly. I added an Autometer electric temp gauge for accuracy. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, hood mount turn signals, four-way flashers, map light, trunk light, and license plate light. The fan motor, wipers, heater, defrosters, horn, factory thumb wheel AM radio and E-brake all work. DRIVE TRAIN The strong running 383c.i. is a 1966 motor with a stock rebuild and some minor upgrades. It has a factory cast-iron intake, electronic ignition distributor, Edelbrock electric choke 600cfm carb and Headman ceramic coated headers. The 383 makes excellent power and runs great. The engine runs extremely smooth, sounds awesome and is very easy to drive in any given traffic condition. The top end was also just done when we restored the engine bay. We went with a very mild hydraulic cam with a 465 lift so it would maintain a perfect 17lb of vacuum in order to operate the power disc brakes and the flip-up headlights. Some new items on the engine are the cam, lifters, timing chain, water pump, carb, and electronic ignition. The casting # on the 383 is 2568130 and on the I.D. badge is B383 for a 1966 engine. The automatic 727 was also rebuilt and shifts excellent through the gears and is an absolute blast to drive! The Charger has excellent drivability and cools well even in stop and go traffic. This excellent drive train combo runs, drives and handles awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving. The 8 ¾ rear-end has a 3.91 posi and the axles have new green bearings and seals. SUSPENSION The front suspension has newer upper and lower ball joints, upper control arm bushings, tie rods, sway bar end links, front shocks and sway bar. All the brakes, rear drums, front disc, rotors, calipers, brake hardware, lines, hoses and rear wheel cylinders are all newer.
