Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1959 Cadillac Coupe. It has the (I believe) 390 engine with power steering, Power Brakes and yes....air conditioning. It also has a 7 way power seat that works. Here is the history of the car as I know it. My buddy's Great grandfather, who resided in Florida, bought this car new. When he passed, it went to my buddy's grandfather, and after he passed it went to my buddy's cousin. It had been stored in a garage for approx 24 years. The "cousin" has four kids and finally realized that he would never be able to have the money to bring the car up to its former beauty. I purchased the car in August 2011. I have enclosed a few pics of when I hauled it out of the garage. After bringing it home and giving her a good wash down...I began getting it ready to fire up back to life. I started by removing the spark plugs, as even though the engine still turned over freely.......wanted to let her sit for several days with some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders. For the next few days, I replaced the water pump, fuel pump, belts, hoses, gas filter, and installed a re-cored radiator using the original tanks. The core was in pretty bad shape along the bottom. I also replaced the power steering filter, and installed all new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. A new oil filter and 5 fresh quarts of oil were added, as well as the fresh anti-freeze. A few cap fulls of gas in the old Carter AFB carb....and Viola!...she sprung to life! At first I ran it from a gas can as I did not know the condition of the fuel in the tank. When I did get the car up on the lift, I was happy to find a drain plug in the gas tank much like an oil drain plug. I drained 8 gallons of fuel out of the tank into clear jugs....and not a bit of rust or sediment came out! I then blew out the fuel lines and added gas to the tank and she has been running ever since. The carb does need a re-build although the car runs pretty darn good. The power brakes vacuum booster I believe is bad as it is very hard to stop the car with no vac assist., so the car will have to be towed / trailer-ed. I have posted pics both when I first brought it home and the condition now. The car is complete but the upholstery as far as seats, carpets and headliner were dry-rotted. I have removed the headliner and carpet. You will note in the pics that this baby is solid all the way through The inner and outer rockers are solid with only some surface rust here and there. The floor pans and frame are the same. There are NO patch panels and the trunk still has the original liner material in it. I believe this car was garaged for the majority of its life. The tires on the car actually look like new tread wise and don't even show any dry-rot at all. They hold air and they are radials. There is a sticker on the pan of the trans that states the trans had been rebuilt by "PATS" Transmissions, which is a VERY well know top transmission builder in this area since the early 1970's. The trans shifts well as I have cruised it up and down the street a few times. The exhaust, although having some surface rust also looks like it may have been replaced not long before she was stored in the garage. The bright-work (Bumpers) are straight but could use re-chrome. The body is straight. There is some cancer spots on the body as shown in the pics....bottom of two front fenders and a little over each fender skirt....but not worthy of total panel replacements only patch panel and repair. There are some extra parts in the trunk that go with the car. The dash needs a new pad as it is cracked in the usual places. The color of the car is "Pinehurst Green". I do have the title of the car and it is clear. I will tell you I could not locate the VIN plate anywhere on the door jamb but the frame number DOES coincide and match the title. And since I have the history of the car from my buddy I have no doubts. He did tell me that his great grandfather did run into the back of his garage wall in Florida and there was repair made to the right front end at one time. I also note that it appears there has been a bondo repair on the right rear quarter as well. All the windows go up and down with the motors with exception of the right front passenger window. All the lights, horn and wipers work. The recent purchase of a 1957 Chevy Wagon to add to my other two 57 Chevy family is the reason for the sale. This Caddy is overall a VERY nice solid project car. Please ...ask any questions you may have before bidding. My feedback speaks for itself. The car will be sold within the USA ONLY. On Feb-22-13 at 06:45:57 PST, seller added the following information: After re-reading what I posted in details (80K miles), I need to make a correction. The odometer shows 45,300 miles.I believe this to be accurate considering the story I was told by my friend. He believes it may be correct also. The engine in this car does not smoke or tap or indicate that it is 145,000.....so I believe it may be correct. I just wanted to clarify. Please email any questions you may have. Thanks Glen On Feb-22-13 at 06:52:40 PST, seller added the following information: I have received messages asking about a Buy It Now Price. I do not have a Buy it Now Price. Please feel free to bid. On Feb-22-13 at 22:55:17 PST, seller added the following information: Hi Gang Thanks for all the views and inquiries on the Caddy. I was asked the condition of the paint. This car will need to be repainted after body work is complete. The paint on the car is oxidized and although may polish up a little...will best be served by a new paint job. Basically it is a project car, but with a little work on the power brake booster...could probably be a decent driver while under construction. The front seat is currently unbolted from the car, which I did when I removed the old carpet. Also, I was corrected by one of my inquiries as to the power seat option in the car. I greatly appreciate any info anyone would like to share from those who have more knowledge about these beautiful pieces of history than I have. Here is what the gentleman posted regarding the seat...just FYI... "Actually, the seat is an eight way adjustment, front switch-up/down front of seat cushion, center toggle- up/down-fore/aft whole seat, back switch-up/down- rear of seat cushion. GM normally referred to this as a six way seat as they didn't count the center toggle up/down movement." Thanks Again!
