Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1968 AMC AMX 343 Automatic Go Pack offered with NO RESERVE! I purchased this car last summer thinking it was going to be a parts car for other projects. But, after getting it home I filed the points and put a battery in it and it came to life. So, I began gathering items necessary to make it as complete as I could and have now decided to offer it for sale as a nice restoration project. If you like to decipher numbers, here they are: VIN: A8C397T275994 Door Tag: Body: R020935 Model: 6839-7 Trim: 831A Paint: 50A E089354 Valve Cover Tag: 912Z21 Dash #: AMX 01984 There is no build sheet. Conclusions: 1968 AMC AMX built in Kenosha in one-year-only Calcutta Russet with black interior. High-compression 343 4 barrel car with automatic floor shift (1 of 902 so equipped in 1968). Engine build date December 21, 1967. I have not found conclusive 1968 build-week data to substantiate when the car was produced. Dash number is of no significance, but “1984” is a cool number if you’re into old Orwell novels. Previous History: There was a lot of work done on the car in the mid-80’s including repairing the rear quarters and paint, chroming bumpers, new rear reflector and miscellaneous maintenance...all of which needs attention again. The front discs were replaced with a drum set up for easier maintenance and the master cylinder was changed to a drum brake type, but the disc power booster remains in the car. The individual I bought the car from was the next owner purchasing the AMX in November of 1987. Best I can determine it was regular transportation for them. They are AMC people having had many AMXs, Javelins, etc. through the years. The car was taken off the road before 1990 and put into a barn where it remained until this summer. Today: This AMX is a running, driving car, but not a stopping car! Needs brakes. Transmission shifts and positraction operates fine. There is some rust on the seams of the floor board but it’s not terrible. Rockers seem good. Left windshield pillar has some rust and there’s surface rust at the seam of the panel between the trunk and back glass. However, I don’t think there’s rust-thru and if there is it certainly will not require extensive repair. Bottoms of the doors are a little soft and the trunk lid lip has rust. Tiny star at the left edge of the windshield that’s been there 25+ years and hasn’t spread and the rest of the glass is good. The door glass is tightly re-glued. Clearly it’s going to require the rear quarters be reworked and complete interior and exterior restoration is necessary. AM radio with correct knobs. Headliner is out of the car and all interior trim is included. It cannot be test driven or driven home, but you could come hear it run. It is a very complete, running AMX Go Pack car and this could be your chance to enjoy owning, restoring and driving one of these awesome muscle cars. There are many photos for you to enjoy and I welcome questions from people seriously interested in the car. I don’t think this is a service replacement or California red engine. I think red paint was simply preferred at some point when the motor was out for a rebuild. You be the judge. The AMX is in Fort Wayne, Indiana if you would like to see it before the auction ends. Please contact me through eBay. I’m not going to go deep into the eBay clichés about numbers matching, rarity, “looks good for her age”, “barn find” or “I’ve seen worse restored”. And I won’t insultingly try to plant any seeds about what you could do with a little work and a little money…or a lot of work and a lot of money! If you are looking at this you know what it is and isn’t. I’ve done my best to be very candid about condition and show representative photos. Fact is, I’ve under-sold the car, but I don’t want any disappointment. Dream your dream and bid accordingly. Terms of sale: I know we’re adults, but I have to say this even if it makes me sound like a jerk: This is a used car. No warrantee or guarantee expressed or implied. Sold “As is/Where is” with clean Indiana title in hand. $500 deposit due within 24 hours of auction close via PayPal; balance due within 7 days in cash, wire transfer or certified bank check. Failure to do so will result in negative feedback and my relisting the vehicle. I’m not very patient but I am fair. Car will not be released before vehicle is paid for and funds clear my bank. Car must be picked up within 14 days unless otherwise arranged. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. There is no reserve and I will listen to offers, but I don’t have a buy it now price. I will not answer silly questions from tire kickers who are lonely. I will not contribute towards shipping or delivery. I do not need a broker or help selling this car. You must have a minimum feedback of 10 to bid. This is an auction for ownership, not an auction for the opportunity to come see the car to decide if you want it…you’re buying the car and this is a contract. If you feel I’ve misrepresented something, let’s work it out so we’re all happy. Thank you!
