Vehicle Detail

1965-66 Porsche 911 Chassis/VIN 302346 I purchased my early 911 Porsche June 1, 1981. This black on black beauty caught my eye and I just had to have it! I purchased the vehicle from a naval officer stationed at the Navy Supply Corp School in Athens, Ga. According to the officer, he purchased the vehicle from a Porsche dealer in Atlanta. The story goes, the 1st owner was a Doctor from Atlanta. The Doctor purchased the car in Germany, drove it and shipped it back to the States via the port of Miami in 1966. He drove the vehicle for several years, until the dreaded cam tensioner failure happened. The car sat at the dealership waiting for a new engine block from Germany, for almost 2 years. In the meantime the doctor had replaced the vehicle with a new Porsche. The dealership installed the new block with all the original parts and the Officer purchased the 911 in 1978. The Officer added a wink mirror, updated radio system, Porsche racing steering wheel and had some rubber door seals replaced along with RS style exterior mirrors. Mechanically the vehicle was like new with just over 50,000 miles. In 1981, he was transferred overseas and offered the vehicle for sale. I was the lucky new owner! I purchased the 911 in June of 1981. I drove it on sunny Sundays, to PCA events in the Atlanta area and participated in 2 National PCA concours events. Even in the 80’s, early 911’s were scarce, so the car tendered much attention. In Nov. of 1997, my only granddaughter was born. Thinking how neat it would be for her to drive a classic car at 16 – I put the 911 in dry storage. The tank and all fuel lines were drained. A storage additive was added to the gas tank. Stainless steel calipers were installed to avoid rust. The oil was changed with a storage additive installed. The car was put up on jack stands. The 911 was then covered with a cotton, water resistant car cover. My granddaughter is turning 16 in November 2013. I pulled the Porsche from storage recently to show her what was to come. Well, she said she wanted a mustang convertible or a S-10 truck! I was heartbroken for a while, and then decided I would sell the 911 and purchase her what she wanted. Grandpa love, I guess… The photos are recent shots – no detailing – no trick shots, just the photos of a vehicle after storage of 16 years! Details Ø Porsche 911 – Sunroof coupe. Chassis # 302346. Research estimates the vehicle was built in Sept/October of 1995. Titled as a 1966 when shipped to the States. Ø Black exterior, black interior. Ø Optional Gas Heater Ø Optional electric sunroof. Ø Optional rear opening windows. Ø Interior near perfect. 1 small ¼ cut in drivers bottom seat. Ø Original sisal floor mats, front and rear. Ø Paint job is shiny – but a 10 foot view. Ø Odometer : 80,XXX miles Ø During storage – 3 areas were chipped. Front deck has a crack in paint. Rear deck, engine cover has paint area chipped. Right front wheel well has scratched areas and pain chips. The antenna was removed and will need to be reinstalled. Other ü This vehicle will need service to bring it back to life. All fluids should be changed. Original Zenith carbs may need to be rebuilt as the gaskets have probably dried and lost their seal. ü Engine will need service to bring back from storage. I pulled the plugs and turned the engine by hand – it is free. ü Engine - Cam tensioner failure – since the block was replaced on the vehicle, the engine does not have a serial number. The dealership did not record the original #. ü The wink interior rear view mirror is installed, however I do have the original interior rear view mirror. It will need the adhesive patch to reinstall. If you are reading this, you probably know that early 911’s prices have skyrocketed in the last 5 years. As Pre-1965 Porsche 356’s moved into the 6 figure price range – the early 911’s have become very desirable collector vehicles. In pricing this vehicle I have researched sales, insurance and pricing data. I really would like this car to go to a new home that will invest in restoration of the car and preserve it for the future. That said, I am starting the price at about ½ of the Hagerty price data valuation! Starting price - $20,000 Reserve is very reasonable on the car – but please don’t ask, highest bidder wins. I am pretty picky about my cars and would list my 911 at a level #4 for pricing. http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=1303910On Feb-03-13 at 08:01:45 PST, seller added the following information:Some folks have asked about rust on the vehicle. The red you see in the pictures is dust from the Georgia Red Clay. As I noted in the description -these are untouched photos of a auto just pulled from 16 years of storage. It has collected alot of Georgia Red Dust, but no structural body rust ;-0)On Feb-03-13 at 15:02:19 PST, seller added the following information: Folks, I've taken photos of the dash, odometer, front seats and jambs - unfortunately ebay won't allow me to post the photos as I have 24 already posted. If you want me to send you copies of these new photos, send me a question and I can attach the photos to the answer. Other: Some folks have asked for a buy it now price - I don't have one, as I noted in the ad, highest bid wins! So, it's a level playing field for all. I believe my reserve is very reasonable. I know it will take an investment to bring the car back to it's former glory! So, if you don't have the cash, hold your bid. Paint color code: It's either 6604 or 6609. The plate in the door jam is rather faint and scratched up. I've tried to raise the numbers, but still can't confirm the last number. Thanks to all that have asked additional questions - I've tried to answer them as quickly as possible. It's back to work Monday - so responses to questions will be after 6:00 PM, Monday and before close of Sale on Tuesday. Thanks!
