Vehicle Detail

1966 Chev Chevelle My son and I bought the car in October 2010 with the intentions of restoring it. As best as I can tell, it is not an unusually rare example of Chevelle and I suspect it had a 6 cylinder engine and very little in the way of options. The former owner put in the big block and I think the 4 speed. Here is what I know: Engine- 454 big block. I believe it is a crate engine that the former owner painted to look like stock. It has a racy idle and sounds very much like a race car. We put a new carburator and distributor on it. It runs VERY STRONG, breaking the tires loose at will. It idles choppy but evenly and has very good vacuum. The car never gets hot and the oil pressure is perfect. It does not use a drop of oil. It sounds incredible and will make you feel like a kid again. Supension and steering- This is where we spent the most of our funds. We compleatly rebuilt the front end. It now has big block springs, shocks, and new bushings. The rear springs and shocks have not been touched by us but have not given us reason to. The car rides very good and one feels safe in it at highway speeds. The power steering pump has a bad leak, and the fluid runs out about as fast as you put it in. I have not fixed it as the car is rather light and easy enough to steer with out it. Car does pull to the left a little. Brakes- Front disk, rear drum, All working correctly and the car stops very short. We did replace the master cylinder and vacuum booster. Exhaust- Long tube headers dump into 3" pipes. Flowmaster muffflers that dump at the rear axel. Car is loud but not overly so. Transmission- Saganaw 4 speed with a very short shift. Clutch is perfect. Rear end- 10 bolt that has been upgraded (by us) to a posi with much beefier components. The rear gears are 3.07's. It can handle the horsepower with ease. Tires -BF Goodrich and are very new. Rims are Centerlines. The right rear has a slow leak that cannot be repaired due to a small crack in the rim. Takes about a month for the tire to go flat. Lights, wipers, horn ect- All work enough for us to get it inspected. It is missing one windshield wiper. The lights (brake, turn, hazzards, high beam ect) were all working last I checked. Interior and gagues- The interior is very nice. The car has a new head liner, the seats are in good order with no rips or tears. The carpet looks new. There are several missing pieces of trim. The glove box is missing, and so is the cigarette lighter. The guages work with the exception of the speedomator. Most of the interior lights work and the aftermarket guages are well lit and accurate. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. There are a lot of little odds and ends things that are missing (like the vent window latch ect.) and there are some wires hanging low under the dash but nothing that looks really hard to repair/replace. Trunk- Has some rust holes in it, also in the lid (see photo). I do not think it has to be totally cut out but it definatly needs some attention. The big box is some speaker thing my son installed. It is not attached and can be removed if not wanted. Exterior- The car is definitely a 20 footer. The pictures show a lot. It has bubbles under the paint in several different areas. The hood is not painted and not alined very well. There is a lot of chrome missing. On a postive note, it is fairly straight and I find no evidance of major damage or bondo. The right front fender needs attention as it is not bolted on very good by the door. With the exception of the bubbles and the trunk, there is not that much rust on the car. The car is very reliable and flat out runs. Other than what I mentioned above there are no major issues. The car is a gas to drive. I have a clear Texas title. I require a $500.00 non-refundable deposit at the close of the auction and the balance paid within 7 days. The car must be picked up within a month. The car is stored inside and we have never driven it in the rain. Please ask any questions and I incourage all interested parties to inspect the car before bidding. Please contact me if you have no/negative feedback before bidding.
