1972 Ford E-100 Econoline Van The van did not sell on the last go around so I am going to tune it up so it can be driven to Ontario, New York, California, Washington State, Florida, Maine, and everywhere else I get the question "can I drive it home" from. Started the diagnostics and tune up yesterday. After inspection and testing, I've decided that this is what I will do: Rebuild carburetor, Replace starter, Replace spark plugs, Replace spark plug wires, Replace distributor, Replace distributor cap, Replace distributor rotor Replace distributor points, Replace oil & filter, Replace air filter, Replace vacuum line to the distributor, Replace fuel pump, Replace fuel filter, Replace fuel hose This will cost me about $200 - $275 in parts and take about 6-10 hours total. I have to be gone for a week until the 29th. That's when I'll order the parts and do the work. The van runs much better after just rebuilding the carb. The distributor shaft is real loose, the new distributor and components will take care of that. Compression seems good. Once I've completed the above services, this van will run well. And, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere in the U.S.. I plan to take a video of the van and post it to the photo bucket site linked in this narrative. Because this takes my time and cash input, I'll be raising the price after the work is done. I am an ASE certified mechanic but, I don't expect to re-coop my labor. The exhaust system will still leak when I am done (rotted muffler & pipe). I don't intend to replace that, although there is a place near-by that could replace the entire system and muffler for about $250. This is a really cool van project. It would be a shame to lose this van for a few measly bucks. You just don't find solid vans like this too often. I also know the location of another van like this, except with windows, for small parts like the heater, original seats, speedometer cluster and the like. This van can be had for a song and is located near me. I'll divulge the location to the successful bidder. This van has a 240-6 cylinder engine and 3 speed transmission on the column. Unlike other mid ford vans, this project is drivable and does not have any "Customized" interior from the early '70's with say, avocado shag carpet, black lights, and a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. I purchased this in Tucson and drove it south 70 miles to my home in Cochise County, near Tombstone AZ. The body is fairly straight, there is a little bit of rust on the door as shown in the photo, but this is an easy fix. To the best of my knowledge this van was purchased in Arizona and spent most of its life here. Parts for these vans and their restoration are available. The environment in Cochise County is gentle on automotive metal, but hard on interiors and plastics. Fortunately, this van has little if any exposed plastic.
