Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a very rare 66 Chevy C-30, 1-ton rear-dually panel. I was told less than 3500 were made. How many with the factory 327 V-8, P/S, P/B and dual rear wheels is unknown. The truck was ordered new and built at the Fremont, Ca PLANT, SF Peninsula, for a Central Coast Calif. Fire Dept and was strickly used as their rescue vehicle. After 4-5 years of service, the truck was then sold to another Fire Dept. which they painted yellow and was also used between 4-5 years. Vehicle was then purchased privately by a former fireman who actually drove and used the rig when in service and has been the sole owner for over 35 years. The truck has less than 45K original miles with the factory 327 4V, P/S, P/B and a 4-speed trans with a granny 1st gear. The truck now has a 4.11 rear-end and had the original 5.38 ratio which I still have. The motor was completely re-built at about 32K due to being tired from extreme running time while at incidents and rescue operations. Both front and rear bumpers were custom made for the vehicle's application including a still working front winch. Custom wheel blocks were also made for the rear wheels. A back-up alarm or bell was also used on the passenger rear tire, but was removed while I prepped the wheel for paint. Still have the working alarm bell. The original wheels are 17.5" in diameterfor both front and rear. I put new tires on the front and have less than 50 miles. The rear tires are not good, bias-ply, over 30+ years old and are showing signs of cracking. Tread is OK and then tires are still holding air. I drive the vehicle about once every two weeks and do not go over 35 MPH due to safety reasons. The front spotlights are original and both still work as is the rear roof. Body wise, an overall very solid truck with the usual surface rust, but has rot at the bottom of both front fenders, a common place and a small amount along the bottom behind the drivers door. There is also some rust around the rear fender flair which had existing bondo from previous repair. Under-carriage is very solid as are the floors. Body also has numerous dings and small dents, but all very repairable. The White primer was used where I sanded misc nicks and chips from over the years. The original glass is in excellent shape as are the rear barns doors which close very tight and the front doors as well. The rear floor, original plywood is still solid for it's age. Both front and reasr bumpers have original chrome plate and still have some shine. The front grill is aluminum and OK, butn has some small damage around the headlight housing. All the gauges still work along with the lights. Vehicle is running on a battery only. The original HD Leece-Neville Alternator needs a re-build, about $150.00 in my area. Again, the brakes are very good as is the steering with no slop, a strong clutch and trans which shifts just fine. Truck is very easy to drive with the P/S. There are no leaks whatsoever on the rig. Former owner who re-built the motor, added a dual-feed Holley carb, Edelbrock Manifold, M/T valve covers and a dual-exhaust with flowmasters. The truck has very good power and sounds healthy. I have the original Quadra-Jet carb which was just re-built from a professional shop at a cost of $385.00 but has not been placed on truck. I also have the original cast iron manifold and air-cleaner. I do not have the original valve covers. This truck has no over-heating issues and has idled for over 45 minutes, no problems. The interior does not have the original bucket seats. The passenger seat is out of an early 70's Chevy Blazer and the drivers seat from an unknown GM type and needs re-upholstering, or just change to match the passenger seat The original rubber floor mat is in good shape, the steering wheel center button stays put, but need the small clips as for the same for the radio delete plate. Tape is presently securing the plate. Overall condition of this truck is above average and in good solid shape. Mechanically the truck is in good driving and operatable condition, but needs cosmetics, body/paint work, rear tires need replacing prior to any long driving due to safety. Vehicle has a clear California title and is currently registered up thru Sept. 2013. As far as rescue emergency equipment goes, I have the original whip antenna w/ball, a vintage Motorola control-head, mic and speaker of this era as well as pylons and (2) restored vintage Oxygen tanks with a regulator and mask. I do not have any emergency lights or siren. This rig is definately unique and massive as well with 21' in length, 6.5' in width and 7' in height. This is taking into consideration of the extended front and rear bumper. This rig would look great put back to original condition which was my plan but things have change, health and storage issues, or make another fire dept unit of your choice, or just use for camping or business needs. I have placed a reasonable reserve on the truck based on overall condition, so please do not ask the reserve price, but please do ask or call (408) 448-1717, if you have any further questions I have failed to mention. I accept Paypal for a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 and must be received within 24 hours at the close of auction. Balance can be made with cash in person, a cashier's check and or a Money Order. Winning bidder is responsible for their own shipping or pick-up of vehicle. This is truly a cool rig and not many left. Good luck bidding.
