Vehicle Detail
This here is one unique pick up truck. This truck started it's life as a 1974 dodge club cab pickup. The wife and I at the time had a 1990 Dodge pickup short box fall into our laps for parts.... Since I already had done a powertrain swap on my 1972, I knew it would be easy to do the same to this one as well. The body on the 74 was trashed and she liked it better than the older body style. So I told her if the doors fit the old cab, then we'd swap bodies... well sure enough they did, and we went to work. It also has a shackle flip done to the rear of the truck so the truck is lifted without custom springs or lift blocks, all welding and bracketry was performed by professionals. the motor has a large cam in it and it is a fiery animal... funny story, when we were first putting it together, I had it fired up and pushed on the brake, put it into drive and romped on the throttle, it spewed dirt, grass and whatever else was under the rear tires into the neighbors yard, via vaulting it over the garage 20 plus feet into the air..... needless to say, I had to go say sorry to the neighbors I had no idea it would be that awesome.... This truck has the body and running gear from the 1990. The engine, transmission, transfer case are all 1974. The engine is a 318 four barrel with a brand new edelbrock 1403 electric choke carb. The Transmission is a 727 automatic with new pan gasket and filter. It's transfer case is a "divorced" unit meaning that between the transmission and transfer case there is a drive shaft. Which makes it easy to swap in whatever engine/tranny combo you like if you don't like what it has. Everything under the hood is brand new, except the heater motor and the wiper motor. It has Msd Ignition, converted to electronic ignition. New plugs, wires, distributor, starter, alternator, fuel pump the truck is lifted with 35 x 12.50 tires. They are a bit worn but this is also just a project truck. The wife left and left me with an unfinished project, I was going to finish it to spite her mother's rude comments, but those have lost their sting and I've since come to my senses. I have too many irons in the fire and it must go. It isn't finished but it is more finished than the last time I listed it. All the rear wiring has been done, tail lights, brake lights, running lights, has all been spliced into the stock wiring. I have to admit those square tail lights are starting to grow on me. Headlights are all hooked up, all the engine control hardware has been bolted on. It is now starting with the key and pushbutton like on race cars. The blinker relays, and hazard relays are new as well, rear tail lights are the new phillips brighter, longer lasting variety. Inside you'll find a chrome racing wheel, the newer seat from the 1990 which just so happened to fit the 1974 cab mount holes. I do not have the front drive shaft, In the pictures I included what it started life as when I first got the truck, then what it looked like as we did all the drive train swap, then the other two is what it looks like now, except, the taillights are in, rear wiring done. I've also completed an update to the brakes. I swapped in a 1ton master cylinder for more brake pressure due to the disc brakes needing more power than the old drums. This is the same swap I have on my 1972 Dodge and it has made a world of diffence. Brand new alternator has also been reinstalled. The stock radiator fan has been replaced with a race unit. I love this truck, I wanted to finish it, I have a huge amount of time and money into this thing, my medical situation has made it so I can't keep it. Two years of staph in my legs, finally properly diagnosed and road to recovery, need the money to get out of the hole it put me in.
