The XWD (torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive) uses a Haldex clutch pack with a standard rear electronic limited-slip differential. The Haldex all-wheel-drive system is similar to setups used on cars such as the Mitsubishi Evo X, BMW X6 and even the Nissan GT-R in that it can actively push torque to whichever rear wheel has the most grip while cornering. Torque vectoring works like stability control, except that it increases control by speeding you up through the application of power rather than by slowing you down through the application of brakes. On the 9-5, that means it takes severe provocation to break traction on dry roads and, when you do start sliding, all four wheels do it at the same time, creating a predictable slide rather than uncontrollable understeer.
