Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This 2-owner Mercedes-Benz 300SE Cabriolet, VIN# 11202312009259, was purchased by my godfather 41 years ago in 1971 from Mercedes-Benz of Los Angeles on La Cienega Boulevard. The car is finished in what I believe is the best color combination for this model, Black exterior with a Red interior and a contrasting Tan convertible top. With 1967 being the last year, this car has all of the improvements and refinements developed for the 300SE model during its six years of production. And with just 253 built in 1967 and only 708 Cabriolets 300SE’s built from 1962 to 1967, fewer than the later 3.5L, the 300SE should continue to be a great investment. A review of the 300SE Cabriolet by Sports Car Market Report stated that "Marque expert and fellow SCM contributor Alex Dearborn contends that a properly set up 300SE is a nicer car to drive, with more power than the six-cylinder 280SE, and a better suspension with less weight on the front wheels than the 3.5." As one of the top-of the-line models for Mercedes-Benz during the 60's, the 300SE was one of the most expensive and luxurious models. Options unique to the 300SE were the following: Increased performance with fuel injected aluminum M189 big-block six-cylinder engine, Improved braking with four wheel disc brakes (also found on other models in this year), Improved ride quality featuring advanced air-suspension, More expensive walnut wood trim, Wood covered dash guage console,Attractive unique exterior styling, featuring chrome body accents (only factory supplied on the 300SE model) The resulting 300SE model proved itself to be a very dependable, competing successfully in the 1960 and 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. Most recently, in 2002, a 300SE coupe won its class at the La Carerra Panamericana. Article from Sports Car Market Report at: Mercedes 300se Cosmetically, the car presents well. The exterior was repainted in its original black color around ten years ago and still presents well. In regards to rust, the car is very good. Underneath the floors look original with original undercoating still intact and no signs of corrosion. This is a result of the car having spent the majority of it's life garaged in Napa and rarely every seeing rain. The fit of the grill, the underside of the hood and the appearance inside the engine bay all look very straight and very original. The chrome still looks nice. There is no pitting on the front grill, light housings, or windshield surround. Possibly, the bumpers were re-chromed at some point. Mechanically, the car also seems good. I drove the car over 100 miles this weekend with no problems. There was no smoke when the car was cold and the car started easily every time. Most recently my mechanic installed a new Bosch long-body fuel pump and the fan housing resealed with OEM German seals. The car had a major, $11,875, service only a couple hundred miles ago in the end of 2008. This service included installing new airbag bellows and new valves in the suspension, new v-belts, brake hoses, rotors, pads, steering dampener, drive flange, and voltage regulator. The transmission and air conditioning were also serviced at this time. I ran the air conditioning several times and it blows super cold and the green indicator light on the A/C emblem still illuminates. Additionally, both the circular exterior glove box map light and internal light work. In terms of problems, the driver's front window occasionally sticks and that the tachometer gauge needle also sticks. Inside, the interior is mostly original, with original door paneling, dash, carpet and rear seat leather upholstery. These are all still in very presentable condition. The car also has its original Becker radio. This car was optioned new from the dealer with air conditioning, which is in working order. A new, original style, tan convertible top was fitted in 2009 and looks like new. Local inspections welcome by appointment. This car is located in Burlingame, California.
