Vehicle Detail
1963 Supercharged Avanti, 44K one owner miles I am reluctantly reducing my collection of R2/R3/R4 powered Studebakers and this one is the first to go. It is on of the most sought after and valuable color combos of turquoise on turquoise, which makes it even harder to let go. It is a true one owner car (I have put less than 100 miles on it and the title still matches the never used dash plaque) I have had very few cars with mileage this low, and I assure you the 44,000 miles on the odometer is actual and never flipped. The interior is in very nice shape with no cracks in the dash, a perfect headliner and the salt and pepper carpet still intact (this unique carpet has been unavailable for many years) The guages are deep black with no peeling paint and have bright orange needles. The ultra rare perforated interior is all original and has one small split along the sewing seem, which is VERY repairable using a technique similar to seeming a carpet with heat. The steering wheel is gorgeous and all the interior foam and vinyl is amazing for a 50 year old car. Mechanically, the is car is very strong. The 289 was rebuilt using modern rings and bearings to ensure no damage to the numbers matching engine (no, a rebuild was not necessary, but when you own a car for 50 years you tend to pamper it) . Plus, the rebuild was done with a FULL BALANCE and BLUEPRINT, making this engine idle and rev sooooo smoothly. Supercharger is fully functional and really ads to its performance. Engine chrome is excellent and all original. Brand new battery, hoses and belts as well. Car is VERY quick and sounds incredible. Power shift transmission is working perfectly and never slips. Steering is as tight as any Avanti I have owned or driven, with almost no play or sloppy feel. Suspension is nice and solid and has been tested at 100 mph...........rides like its on rails. New master cylinder, power assist and stainless steel calipers. NO RUST anywhere and ROCK SOLID hogtroughs. The bumpers are gorgeous and have NEVER been rechromed or changed, and have the patina like one would expect from an original 44k car. The car has been repainted once 20 years ago, but the engine compartment, trunk, and door jams are original paint. The spare tire has never been used and still has its paint stripes on the treads. Trunk carpet is also original and very nice. Car comes with a pile of original paperwork from trade in numbers to warranty info. It even has the dash plaque with the sticker never peeled and it resides in the original manila envelope from Studebaker (dash plaque also matches name on title). As you see, the leaky overflow tank has been upgraded to a reliable modern system, and this car runs much cooler. Modern insulation has been installed under the original carpet , making a much more comfortable interior. Other than that, this car is bone stock original the way it left the factory. This car is not a trailer queen, but rather an incredibly original car. It is not perfect, but much nicer than the majority of Avantis out there. It could use a power steering flush (I think two types were mistakenly mixed) but it is not necessary once the car warms up for a minute or so. Gas guage is currently not working. Thats about all I can think it could use, other than little things here and there. If you have been looking for a rock solid, unmolested and original R2 Avanti, this car should garner some serious consideration. Cars like this are getting harder and harder to find, thats for sure.
