Vehicle Detail
1980 Porsche 911SC Race Car (’74 RSR Clone) If there ever was a manufacturer whose name is synonymous with motor sports it has to be Porsche. Nearly from the beginning of Porsche, their cars have been raced. Not just in the “also ran” category but they have been competitive in their respective classes and have countless class, group and overall wins. Maybe that’s because they were designed from the start to be race cars modified for the street instead of street cars modified for the track. Until you’ve owned a Porsche, you might not understand. Once you have, you totally get the passion people have for them. Instead of constantly trying to come up with a new mouse trap, Porsche stuck with its mid-sixties 911 design for decades steadily refining it into one of the best built sports cars in the world. Steel Affairs car is a 1980 911SC. It has been re-built to emulate the 1974 Carrera RSR race cars. Over $21,000.00 spent with receipts for only a portion of the work. The basically stock 3.0L motor had a recent top end build at a cost of around $9,000.00. It retains the stock 915 5-speed tranny. A full roll cage, racing seats, seat belts good through 2014, gauges, fuel cell, racing shocks/struts, Goodyear racing slicks, wide Fuchs wheels, it’s all here. Completed in the fall of 2009, this car has only seen testing time on the track to sort it out. The owner didn’t find the time to use it as he thought he might. His loss could be your gain. The car was built as a serious race car in the areas of chassis, suspension and safety. However, reliability was also a big factor so it was also built with dependability in mind. I think Porsche already had that part covered. Built similar to 2 other cars that have seen 5 or 6 track events a year for past 5 years without a problem, this car should bring years of driving pleasure to anyone whether you use for it for occasional track days or a full vintage or PCA race schedule. Contact Mark at Steel Affairs if you have specific question regarding this awesome example of Porsche’s racing heritage. (303) 884-3699.
