Vehicle Detail
Lotus - Super 71996 Caterham Super 7, IMPORTANT NOTE: This car was a well sorted driver, however, just as we had decided to sell the car, we bottomed out, dropped the oil and seized the motor. The bearings took all of the burden of the oil starvation, there were no broken or cracked parts and the engine can be rebuilt. since there are many engine options available, I have had people express interest in buying the car as-is so they can fit it with their engine of choice. With that in mind, this listing is for the car as-is, with the seized motor. If the buyer wishes to put it back to stock, I can have the current 1700cc Ford Kent Crossflow motor removed, rebuilt and reinstalled for $3,500 in addition to the final sale price and would expect it to take about 3 weeks to turn around (Holiday schedule conflicts aside). Or the buyer may take it as-is and have the motor rebuilt to their liking.... or if they would like the car with no motor, I will credit $500 off the final sale price. You choose. Any questions, please fell free to call or email.Previous owner was a meticulous race engineer. He literally tracked down every noise and vibration and set this car up perfectly. Far and away one of the most exhilirating 4-wheel experiences out there. We've really enjoyed this Super 7 and while we're moving on to something different for now, we will look forward to owning another one of these motoring gems in the future. Rear tires have seen some spirited road use and are about 50%, but not in need of replacement yet. Priced to sell, we have more toys on the way! If you have any questions or can't wait and would like to put in an offer, please call Zac at 212.229.2402 This is a 24 year-old car and there are no guarantees. Classic car ownership is a labor of love and part of the experience is putting some work into keeping these classic machines on the road. If you want a car that is 100% reliable and trouble free, this is not the car for you, you should be looking at a new toyota with a factory warranty! This car will deliver a unique and memorable driving experience and those same things that make it unique and special do sometimes require some special attention and maintenance. That is all part of the joy of classic car ownership. This car is owned and operated by the Classic Car Club. We operate a fleet of cars for our members to drive. While this does mean that our cars see a few more miles than typical cars of this age and are driven by multiple drivrs, it also means they are mechanically sorted and regularly maintained. We're strong believers that the worst thing to do with a classic car is let it sit, by getting out on the road and driving these cars regularly, we keep them alive.
