Vehicle Detail
We have had this awesome rig for one year and spent a few thousand dollars with the intention of keeping this for a long time. The prior owner had the engine rebuilt to the cost of about $5,000 we have receipts for it. So we thought we had a pretty solid rig as a starting point for an adventure vehicle. However with a new baby we realize the amount more we need to spend to make it baby safe (fix Air conditioning) and fully reliable (mysterious idle/stalls out problem) causes us to offer the vehicle up to a new owner. RUNS AND DRIVES FINE, UP TO 60 MPH. (was able to do 85 but cat seems to be plugged) As you can see from the photos this Montero is set up with a 8,000lb Warn winch and a roof rack. All Monteros come from the factory with a super tough torsion bar suspension system and it seems this one has had uprated bars put on by prior owner. All Monteros also come with full skid plates from under radiator all the way back to end of transmission, plus full skid plate under fuel tank, and even a little skid plate box under and around the fuel filter. The biggest two problems to our truck at the moment are the rough idle/stalling out problem, and this has led to the other problem, loss of top end power, which acts just like the one other time I had a catalytic convertor get plugged up. We had just replaced the cat to pass CA emissions, so from the photos you can see its turned blue from heat, so its probably ruined. But its costly labor to replace, you have to drop the passenger side torsion bar, so a muffler shop cannot do the whole job, last time it was $300 labor. The windshield has at least 4 little star damage spots and there are 3 rust spots around the windshield frame, one each "A" pillar and one below passenger wiper blade. they have been sanded and repainted black, but a good repair should be done when the windshield gets replaced. Drivers fender Rusted, So I have a replacement, but its blue. rear bumper mangled a little from prior owner towing a boat, so I have a replacement, but its black not chrome. there is a mounting hardware on the passenger rear quarter, but a slight dent also, so I did not remount can, thinking I could be just as accident prone. We have done a ton of work in a just a year, see below, most all the electrical work is trying to sort out the rough idle/stalling problem. so we have a box of parts removed to go with, since none of them seem to be at fault, such as ECU, coil, distributor, plugs..... here is the list New, not rebuilt Radiator,Thermal sending unit,Accessory drive belt and water pump, and Fan...$700 Starter Catalytic convertor ( but you get to do that again) Tires ( the Coopers we choose won an off road comparison test) $650 Batterycomplete brake job, expensive on the rear brakes, wheel cylinders, bunch of stuff, $800 Spark plugs Spark plug wires Ignition coil Complete distributor unit, gear driven aluminum housing that cap and rotor mount onto Cap and rotor Computer ECU, CA version Air Filter Fuel Filter Idle Control motor, twice All Vacuum lines AC recharge- leaked out, but with dye so shop can find the leak AC fan replaced All fluids changed Roof painted white Rack repainted black Hood painted blackWe can deliver within 50 or so miles of San Francisco. I don't recommend driving it much father. The cat being plugged up. it doesn't want to pull more than 65mph, where before it would sail at 85. (as already posted in the Ebay listing description) Thanks everyone, and best of luck to you in the last day of the auction.
