Vehicle Detail

A car that puts a smile on the face of those who are having a bad day. Thanks for looking at my Mini Cooper that I have honestly represented it the very best that I can. I have been fascinated with the Minis since the 60's and was really disappointed when they were no longer being imported in the late 60's. Once they became an antique vehicle, you could import as an antique. History: I had the car imported in 2ooo from England to Baltimore. It had originally been sold to a customer in Germany and I had been told that the car has always been a LHD model. This car is TITLED as a 1966 Morris Mini Cooper Deluxe. The car (body a re-shelled MK IV with A 1275cc -series drive train) came with new interior and minor electrical problems. I drove it as a commuter vehicle for several years but the mileage on the Interstates was taking it’s toll on the original 1275A engine with the 3.44:1 final drive. The mileage on the odometer is incorrect due to the changing of the final drive gear in 2oo6. Make it reliable: With the stock 3.44:1 final drive, it was turning 4,000 revs at 70 MPH and wearing the engine out. In 2oo6 I replaced the original engine with another 1275A+ Metro unit and single 1.75 SU carb, and this time I used a highway gear of 2.73:1. This took the revs down to 3,000 at 70 MPH but killed that rapid performance that I was used too. None the less it made a good commuter with 38MPG. In 2oo6 I replace the radiator due to un-repairable leak and hoses with thermostat and replaced the plastic fan. The alternator quit working so I also replaced the water pump and fan belt. I replaced the fuel pump with an electric pump. New battery in 2o1o too. Make it pretty: In 2ooo, I sent it to the body shop for renovation. No wheel flares for this Mini, just the chrome seam trim like the original Mini. Sills and needed floor pans and door skins were replaced. This was a major project. It was undercoated and painted black with a pearl white roof. In 2oo6 I bought new 12" Minilite style wheels and Falken tires to give it that sporty Cooper appearance. It has a walnut 3-clock dash and walnut trim with chrome sill protectors. I took it to car shows and it was quite impressive. Make it comfortable: I am 6' tall and was pretty cramped in the Mini driver seat. I lowered the steering wheel and moved the seat back 3" and this gave me the needed room. The original suspension was cone style and was giving a very hard ride. I installed a HI-LOW suspension kit for road driving and it improved the ride 100%. Make it safe: Returning from one of the car shows the brakes started acting un-funny. One front wheel was locking up and I had to let it cool down before continuing home without using my brakes. It was determined I had a caliper sticking. I rebuilt both front calipers (8.4" Rover Servo) and replaced disc pads and replaced rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes so it now has good brakes. I also replace the original windshield that was scratched due to previously worn wiper blades. Make it quiet: The original exhaust header was rusting away so I replaced the headers, exhaust pipe and muffler. That made it much quieter so that I can at least listen to the radio when on the road. I just installed a new radio-cd player because the old unit stopped working. Probably competing with the exhaust. This car has been my pride and joy for 12 years. I have put countless $$ into updates and repairs to keep it that way. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being excellent, it is a 7.5-8. It is starting to show cosmetic imperfections and a little rust. It just passed state inspection with flying colors except for the wise crack “Where is the rest of your car ?” Starts 1st time, every time. This Morris Mini Cooper Deluxe comes with a repair manual and original parts manual. Trade-ins: I will consider motorized trades of similar value.
