THIS LISTING IS FOR A 1979 SPECIAL EDITION TRANS AM- EXTERIOR- THE EXTERIOR LOOKS TO RETAIN MOST OF THE ORIGINAL SHEET METAL HOWEVER THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF SOME OF THESE PANELS (PLEASE SEE PICTURES) THE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE CAR IS VERY CLEAN AND HAS NO ROT AND NEEDS NO PORTION REPLACED. THERE IS NOTHING MISSING FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE T-TOPS ARE PRESENT AND ARE NOT BROKEN INTERIOR- THE INTERIOR HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY REFINISHED IN A RED TRIM AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REDONE. EVERYTHING IS THERE. MECHANICAL- THIS CAR WAS SOLD TO ME AS A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR. THE MOTOR WAS PAINTED RED SO I LOOKED AT SOME OF THE NUMBERS AND ONE OF THE NUMBERS ON TOP OF THE WATER PUMP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS AN OLDSMOBILE 350 ENGINE. THEREFORE I DON'T BELIEVE THIS TO BE NUMBERS MATCHING AND I DID NOT CHECK THE TRANSMISSION OF REAR END. THIS CAR WILL START AND PULL FORWARD BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A NUT HAS BEEN DROPPED INTO ONE OF THE CYLINDERS AS IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE. I DON'T BELIEVE REVERSE WORKS. THIS IS A DOCUMENTED SE CAR AND I WILL INCLUDE THE PHS DOCUMENTATION TO THE WINNING BIDDER. I WILL TRY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS CAR HOWEVER I HAVE NOT EVEN TRIED TO MOVE IT OTHER THAN PUTTING IT IN THE GARAGE. DUE TO THE AMMOUNT OF INTERESTED POTENTIAL BUYERS I HAVE ADDED FIVE PICTURES TRYING TO SHOW THE CAR IN A LITTLE MORE DETAIL. I WAS ASKED ABOUT SHEET METAL, GLASS AND GUAGES. THE GUAGES ALL "APPEAR" TO WORK. I SAY THIS BECAUSE I CAN'T REALLY CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER, THE FUEL, VOLTAGE AND TEMP GAUGE ALL SEEM TO WORK AS WELL AS THE TACH. THE SHEET METAL HAS A COUPLE OBVIOUS IMPERFECTIONS LIKE RUST THROUGH ON THE BOTTOM OF BOTH FENDERS AND A POOR ATTEMPT AT A FIBERGLASS REPAIR ON THE PASSENGER QUARTER. THE COWL IS GOOD, THE HOOD IS OK, THE DOORS SEEM OK, THE TRUNK AND ROOF ARE OK (I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF BODY EXPERIENCE). THE FRAME IS AWESOME AS WELL AS THE UNDERCARRIAGE. ALL THE GLASS IS GOOD EXCEPT FOR THE WINDSHIELD, WHICH YOU COULD ACTUALLY GET AWAY WITH FOR A WHILE, THE HINGES ARE CAUSING THE HOOD TO BE ABLE TO HIT THE EXTREME BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL. THE GLASS HAS A BASEBALL SIZE SPOT THAT HAS CRACKED. LIKE I SAID ABOVE I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF BODY EXPERIENCE BUT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE ORIGINAL PAINT ON THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN SANDED DOWN VERY THIN AND IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE ONLY PAINT ON THE CAR ON ALL THE PANELS. YOU CAN TELL WHERE THE HOOD HAS BEEN REMOVED TO LIKELY PUT THE EXISTING ENGINE IN. I DON'T SEE WHERE ANY OF THE OTHER SHEET METAL HAS BEEN MODIFIED OR REMOVED. I TRIED TO SHOW A DETAILED PICTURE OF THE CODE IS USED TO IDENTIFY THE ENGINE AS AN OLDSMOBILE 350. IT IS THE LAST PART OF THE CODE WHERE YOU CAN SEE "3B" THROUGH MY RESEARCH THIS IS THE 350 MOTOR. IF IT WERE A 403 IT WOULD READ "4B" ANY OTHER INPUT THAT A VIEWER MIGHT HAVE WILL BE POSTED FOR ALL TO SEE TO TRY FOR THE MOST INFORMATION AND ACCURACY AS IM SURE FOR A SPECIAL EDITION CAR THAT IS OF IMPORTANCE TO MOST. I AM GETTING A FEW OTHER QUESTIONS THAT CAN BE ANSWERED WITH THIS. THE CAR WILL NEED A FULL RESTORATION. FROM THE INTERIOR, TO THE MOTOR AND DRIVETRAIN, TO THE BODY AND PAINT.
