Vehicle Detail

You are Bidding on a Classic Vintage 1952 Bentley R-Type SaloonVIN B220SR/Engine No. B1105 Rolls Royce produced 2,323 of the R-Type Saloon between 1952-1955. The car has been living in the Charleston, South Carolina area for about 2 years and is driven almost daily to keep it "happy." While on the road, people wave and when it is parked, it always strikes up a conversation - especially with the right-hand drive and the "suicide" doors. Factory sunroof. Interesting fact - this right-hand drive has the manual shift to the right of the driver (between driver and the door), making it very comfortable for a "western" driver. Most British right-hand drive cars have the manual shift in the middle, to the left of the driver. 4.6 liter, straight 6 engine (inline 6 engine with the cylinders mounted in a straight line), 130 horsepower. The original owner of this vehicle was the Earl of Moray at Darnaway Castle in Scotland. Purchase includes the original registration paperwork from Scotland (with date stamps until 1973) and the original Owners Manual. Also available is the service manual on DVD. The current owner upgraded the vehicle in 2011 from a generator to an alternator with modern halogen headlamps. The vehicle has non-period tires. The original generator and headlamp parts were retained and are included with the purchase. Other recent service on the vehicle includes replacement of the rear wheel bearings, replacement of engine mounts. Radiator has been replaced and includes a combined external cooling fan. Front brake hoses have been replaced and there has been a repair to the emergency brake cable. The car does not have "period" tires and does need some TLC and continuing mechanical work. It is a good driver, however. The interior woodwork is completely intact, without chips or cracks. Includes the factory tool drawer with all the original tools which was an option on this vehicle. The car has been entered in a couple of non-juried shows in the Charleston area and has been very popular. However, the paint is not "show quality" and would need to be upgraded in order to compete. The body is in great shape; the rear bumper has a small dent or bend which can be repaired - there is no rust or break in the chrome. The bumper dent is not from an accident but appears to have resulted from an improper hoist or jack at some point (not during current ownership). This car was purchased by the current owner in 2010 from prior owner in Toronto, Canada, who claimed family ownership from 1974-2010. At time of purchase in 2010, car was represented as having only 12,000 miles on odometer. However, professionals who have worked on the vehicle in past two years believe the odometer has "turned." Additional note: the "Centralized Chassis Lubrication System" has been disconnected (by a prior owner). Factory sunroof, two wood champagne trays in back seat. Leather upholstery has been "refinished" for appearance, but has no cracks or holes and is in good shape. Carpet completely intact. Original British License Plate ASO 400
