The third generation Camaro was launched in 1982. The Camaro Z28 was Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1982. Through the years, GM continuously altered the model lineup and option lists. The Camaro line was greatly simplified in 1988, starting with discontinuing the slow-selling one-year-wonder LT model, and dropping the base Z28. The IROC-Z package proved popular and the package became standard on all Z28s. This change resulted in only two models remaining, the base coupe and the IROC-Z. 1988 brought about some welcome changes in the horsepower department. For the first time in the history of the Camaro, no carburated engines were available. All motors offered fuel injection of some sort. 27,811 IROC Z Camaros were manufactured in 1988. The third-generation Camaro continued through the 1992 model year. The third generation Camaro remains today as a very popular choice for car enthusiasts, drag racers, and performance hobbyists alike. The IROC Z was a wonderful classic in stock form. However, many gear heads built their third gens into some of the most feared on the street and at the drag strip. The text below describes one example of these modified performers. The paint is in excellent condition, buffed to a mirror gloss. There are a few minor door dings on the driver's door, and a few driving chips, but the overall paint condition is excellent. Black sport stripes. Four inch fiberglass cowl hood with hood pins. The cowl hood is a perfect fit for the third generation body lines. Rear spoiler with third brake light. T-tops are in very good shape. Dual sport mirrors with left hand remote. All glass is tinted and in very good shape. Chrome 18" IROC style wheels, highly polished, with radial tires. IROC decal delete. Fit and finish, panel gaps, etc. all very good. The heart of this street machine is in the engine bay. 406 Cu. In. hydraulic roller engine. Edelbrock Competition Series carburetor. Edelbrock RPM Air Gap aluminum intake manifold. Edelbrock aluminum heads. Hydraulic roller cam and valve train. MSD distributor and coil. MSD 6A ignition module. Spark Timing Control. Edelbrock polished valve covers. Headers flow into custom exhaust with split tips at the rear. Heavy duty radiator with cooling fan. 700R4 automatic transmission has been rebuilt with elevated shift points and small stall converter. Ten bolt rear differential. Undercarriage is clean and solid as a southern car should be. Gray deluxe cloth interior. Seats and cushions are in excellent condition. Door panels and carpet in great shape. Factory gauge faces are all crystal clear. Dash pad has a crack. Grant GT steering wheel. Auto Gage adjustable tach with shift light. Sun Pro water temperature, volts, and oil pressure gauges. Pioneer AM/FM/CD. B&M ratchet shifter. Power disc brakes. Power steering. Power windows. A/C is non op. The quality in the interior equals the quality of the exterior and drive train. As stated, over $17,000 was invested in this restoration. This is an opportunity to own this show capable performance machine at a fraction of that cost. The selling price is well below actual value.
