All Original Unmolested Untouched 1971 Datsun 521 Pick-Up Truck So here's the deal; I bought this truck last year from the Original owner, who bought it and kept it in Southern California from the day he acquired it from the local Datsun Dealership. This older gentleman was more than willing to recap the truck's history... from the camping days to driving it in the 70's due to the fuel crisis and his neighbors giving him a hard time for not driving American. The truck was last driven in the early 90's when he decided to store it in his garage, never to see the open road again until last year when we met. During this year I have been able to start the truck, get it running and drive it locally. Not to mention transfer the title and registration to my name while making sure all DMV fees are up to date. I originally bought this truck as a project-daily beater - My plan was/is to make it reliable enough to drive it for work and still restore it gradually. The reason I'm actually listing it is because I have come to the point where I'm considering cutting up this truck.... I've been itching to tear out the original power plant and transmission and swapping in a newer SR20DET with matching 5-Speed Transmission; triple the horsepower while capturing the reliability of a modern car. This however, will definitely kill the originality of the truck as it is my understanding it is currently an all matching numbers vehicle! The truck even has the original dealer-option working AC unit! So here it is, if you are currently looking for an all original 70's Datsun truck with working AC and AM Radio, unmolested and garage kept in California, here's your chance! I'm only listing this truck once, if it doesn't sell, then I guess I have to weigh-out my options of keeping its original power plant or updating it to modern times. Now for the pictures.... Front View Working Headlights ENGINE BAYShe's a bit rusty, but she runs and drives. Please note this is all surface rust, I still have yet to find rust that has gone-through other than some nickle/quarter size rust bubbles on the lower door corners.Like I said, all original; including pumps, Kangaroo bag and air cleaner housing.Although she drives, it still needs going-through before making any long journey trip Freshly rebuilt carburetor. The original pumps. The AC unit works, but currently does not blow cold air... it needs to be cleaned and recharged. New cap and rotor, fresh set of points and new spark plugs & plug wires. Everything set to manufacturer recommendations. Original Kangaroo bag. There are no holes, but I have not checked for leaks; been working on getting the truck running first.As you can see, freshly rebuilt clutch and brake master cylinders. Fresh new fuel pump and fuel hoses. Please note; the battery will NOT be included with the sale, I've been using this battery from another car I have sitting in the garage.Although the carburetor has been rebuilt, the fuel lines and fuel pump are new, the truck started to bog this past weekend. I'm not sure if it's something as simple as replacing the fuel filter again, or actual debris making its way to the carburetor and clogging a line. THE BODY...For being a 41 year old truck, most all of the body is straight with the bodylines matching up and flowing smoothly through out the truck!The truck does have a few dings acquired through out the years, but nothing major other than the dents on the front corner fenders. Drivers Side.... smooth and clean! Passenger side; again, mostly smooth and clean! The rear trunk area in the passenger side has more dents being pushed "outward" from inside the bed. These were likely caused when the original owner hauled tools or heavy items that were lose on the truck's bed. Yes, it does come with that fancy retro toolbox!!! REAR VIEW OF UNDERCARRIAGE FRONT VIEW OF UNDERCARRIAGE THE INTERIOR Gauge Cluster Modern amenities; Ash Tray, AM Radio, Heater Unit and Dealer Installed Factory AC Unit! Simple yet functional knobs... AC Unit integrated into the cab's design. Sleek glove compartment and original mono-speaker. Working glove compartment remains original and un-cut Heater control... On or OFF? Cab airflow: Room or Floor? And the crown gem; the original shift knob! (I couldn't get a better picture even if I tried!) Fold the original bench down and you will find the original floor jack and accessory kit provided for emergencies. Although the seat has no tears, rips or scratches, I was told by the original owner that this is NOT the original bench cover. The bench was reupholstered back in the 80's. When I first got the truck, the headliner was in mint condition and not hanging. Unfortunately the truck was towed (on a flat bed) against the flow of air with the windows down, hence the air ripped off the headliner. As far as I can see, the headliner is in one piece and can probably be re-glued or installed to keep the original look and feel The original working cab light As stated before, the truck is all original and garage kept in California since day one by its original owner. He was able to provide the original owner's manual to the truck and factory AC unit! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
