This great Jaguar was built on January 12, of 1965 and dispatched on January 28th of 1965 by Jaguar Cars in New York. The original owner was Mr. Clarence Bettner of Rochester, NY. The E-type presented here still retains most of its original Dark Blue paint with all original Red interior showing original patina. As can be seen in the pictures, this is one of the truly stunning color combinations offered for Jaguar E-types. This great car still has the original body number chalk marks on the firewall and convertible top boot. I first saw this car 7 years ago and tried to buy it from the previous owner, but he was always reluctant to sell as he loved this car. I called him a short while ago to see if he wanted to sell so he finally agreed to sell it, as the time was right for him to move on. I assured him, I would find a good home for the car and hopefully another long term owner. He owned the car for almost 35 years and it was in Update NY State. The car has the original hard top, which was taken off when purchased in 1978 and stored off the car for the past almost 35 years. The previous owner to us bought in 1978 from a gentleman who lived in Western NY. The oil change sticker is still on the door from 1973, when it had 47,507 miles on it. The car currently has 60,761 miles on it. The original owner was Mr. Bettner of Rochester, NY and I believe he sold it to the gentleman in Orchard Park in the early 1970s who then sold it to the gentleman we purchased the car from. We have the Heritage Certificate to confirm all numbers and original color. This nicely preserved Jaguar has been well take care of. The car runs and drives beautifully and has a great original feel to the drive. The compression across all 6 cylinders is 160psi to 170psi. The oil pressure is 20 pounds at idle when hot and when the car is driving the oil pressure is over 40 pounds There is no knocking or excessive valve ticking from the engine. The gearbox shifts effortlessly with no noises in any of the gears and the clutch feels good. In addition, the car stops well and the brake pads have plenty of life on them. This is not a tired old car, but a car that is ready to enjoyed. While this car may not be for someone looking for a trailer queen or a restored car, it would be great for someone who appreciates a good original and original patina as there are not too many series I cars like this anymore. To elaborate on the condition of this car: Paint/body: The paint on the car looks to be mostly original. What I mean by this is that some areas of the car have been painted or blended over the years. The bonnet looks like it was repainted at one time. The body is straight. There are some scratches and touch ups, as to be expected. Also, door dings as well from over the years. The paint has a mirror like shine as we buffed the lacquer paint and it has a lot of depth. Chrome: The chrome is all original on the car. The only chrome we know of that was replaced are the chrome wire wheels. The chrome is in really good original condition. There is some pitting on the rear tail light chrome. The rest of the chrome has some cloudiness, but still in really nice original condition. Remember 47 years old. Interior/Soft top: The interior is original and quite nice for as old as it is. The seats show their original patina with some fading and cracking. The carpets show some original wear, but are not too faded and still nice. The dash has some separation of the vinyl near the defroster vents. The soft top was replaced a while ago and does show signs of its age, but is still functional with no holes or tears or major rear window discoloration. Hardtop: The original hard top is also in excellent original condition. It does have the original seals and old weather stripping, but it is complete and fits on the car easily. The gentleman we purchased the car from never used the hard top. The day after he bought the car in 1978 he took the hardtop off and stored it in his garage having never placed the hard top on again until we purchased the car. These Series I roadster look very elegant with the original hard top and it is one of the few classic sports cars where the hardtop does NOT look like an afterthought or that fits with the actual car. Wheels/Tires: The chrome wire wheels and knock offs look brand new. The tires are newer and have plenty of life left on them. Underside/floors: The underside/ floors are solid, degreased and detailed. We did not go over the top detailing this as we still wanted to show some of the originality of the car, but I did want to seal the original floors for driving. The exhaust is older, but appears to be solid. As far as rust issues, there is some corrosion on the driver side front wheel well on the bonnet splash guard piece. There was some corrosion on the back of the rear floor boards on each side where it looked like some water had settled and this was repaired. The car has the original floors and footwells which are very solid. Also under the driver side door and passenger door are solid as well. Engine Compartment: The engine compartment is original with the exception of an extra fan added to radiator for cooling, with wiring that goes with it and in addition we painted the exhaust manifolds. The gold on the head has worn off over time and the cold paint that is left is flaking off. The original body number chalk mark of “1560” is still on the firewall and also on the convertible top boot. It looks like some during the years decided to paint the underside of bonnet flat black. The frame rails are the original color of Dark Blue with some of the paint that has come off over the years. Again, we did not choose to overdetail the engine bay as it was more original and once again a good looking 47 year old gal. Mechanically: The engine compression is good as listed above (160 to 170 psi). The oil pressure when cold is 25 to 30 pounds. The compression when hot (idle) is about 20 pounds. Of course when you are driving it is higher. We have driven the car and it drives great with great acceleration. The engine is strong and runs well. Also, we did install a new oil pump, oil sending unit when the oil was changed. We did inspect the bottom half of the engine and it looked good with no metal shavings in the oil pan. As far as some other recent work performed in addition to above: new nylon bushing installed in the steering column, new trailing arm rubber mounts (pressed round pieces). The fuel tank drained and sump cleaned. The fuel was very clean with no sludge. This is an original car that has not been restored and I am sure down the road there may be some items it will need being mostly original, but it drives nice and runs good. This car does not necessarily need restoration, but how far the next owner chooses to take the car or just leave it, is up to them.We would be happy to go over the car further detail with any serious buyer in terms of what we know on the car. Spare tire compartment: The spare tire compartment is clean and also original. We trained the fuel tank and cleaned out the sump where there was no dirt in the fuel or tank. The spare tire matches the tires on the car and the chrome spare wheel was bought new with the others that are currently on the car. The original tools seemed to have disappeared through the years. Overall: This is an excellent original car. It is truly stunning and everywhere it goes people compliment the car. As said earlier this is not for someone looking for a show car or restored car, where everything is perfect or near perfect. This is an original type car that has not been restored and I am sure down the road there may be some items it will need being mostly original, but it drives nice and runs good. This car does not necessarily need restoration, but how far the next owner chooses to take the car or just leave it, is up to them. We would be happy to go over the car further detail with any serious buyer in terms of what we know on the car. We would hope this would go to the next owner who appreciates the car for what it is and keeps the car for another 35 years! They are only original once.
