Vehicle Detail
This car was purchased new from Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills (at a cost of $90,000) and immediately taken to R. Straman for conversion to a convertible, which was completed by 8/90 (including frame strenghtening, etc at a cost of over $10,000). At the same time, a base AMG body kit was added. In 1996 the cylinder heads and valves were redone by MBZ at 46,000 miles. I purchased the car in 2001, was given the above history and told that I am the third owner. It has been in CA most of its life. The car now has 142,500 miles. The body appears to have never been hit and is straight with all original panels and paint with one exception: the front bumper is pushed back about 1/2" on the left side of the car (see photo) and the spoiler below has a small crack and was repainted. Interior is in good condition; dash has no cracks, etc... but shows some wear given that this is a 1990 car. This car has been my reliable daily driver for 10 years, but now needs some TLC which I don't have time to give. Immediate needs: New windshield (large crack in existing one). New top (top is torn and rear plastic window is opaque, but the power mechanism works). New paint: existing paint is oxidized and the clear coat is cracking, etc... New radiator (it is plastic and the return outlet to the overflow tank has cracked. I have glued it- only as a temporary measure to prevent further leakage). There is an oil leak likely requiring the replacement of a gasket somewhere. The fan belt makes some noise and the problem needs to be diagnosed and serviced. The car has been incredibly reliable for a decade. But, it is time to pass it on to someone with the time and motivation to restore it before the rains come. So, THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION. Do not bid unless you have the funds in hand and are committed to buy the car. Do not bid if you do not have positive feedback. The car is sold WHERE IS AND AS IS (buyer is soley responsible for pick up/ shipping (immediate needs listed above must be fixed before it can be safely driven any distance), smog certificate and/ or inspection as required by your state) WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OR REPRESENTATION. THERE ARE NO RETURNS AND WILL BE NO POST-SALE INSPECTIONS. I have attempted to describe the vehicle accurately, but I am not a trained mechanic and each bidder is soley responsible for his/her own pre-bid evaluation and/or inspection of the car. I am selling this car at NO RESERVE to insure a quick, smooth and final transaction. Hopefully the winning bidder will take the time and effort to fully restore the car. On Oct-11-12 at 16:01:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I have located the 4 original chrome MBZ wheels. They will be included with the car (in addition to the wheels pictured). On Oct-14-12 at 15:02:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I have located the original amber front turn signal lenses and shift knob. They will be included with the car (in addition to the clear lenses and burn shift knob currently on the car). The steering wheel is also burl; it cost me $1000 with installation. I have been asked for a buy it now price, but will let the auction run.
