However, this vehicle displays all the original components and options of a Super Sport. It is also priced at a fraction of the price of a documented Super Sport. Don't miss this opportunity. Most muscle car enthusiasts agree that one of the most iconic models of the era was the Chevelle. Although relatively short lived, the Chevelle was one of GM's most successful nameplates. Built on the GM A-body platform with a somewhat reserved initial offering in 1964, developed into what most feel is the pinnacle of the muscle car boom, the 1970 Chevelle SS. The age of muscle cars peaked as the 1970s began -- and the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 helped to herald the ascent. When GM lifted its displacement ban on midsize cars, Pontiac, Olds, and Buick responded with 455-cid mills with up to 370 bhp. Chevrolet's answer was a 454-cid V-8 that started at 360 bhp and ended at a barbaric 450. This was the muscle car summit. There was no weak power plant offered for this model- Base engine was a 350 horsepower 402 Cu. In. Three optional engines were the 375 horsepower 402, 360 horsepower 454, and the ultimate street beast, the vaunted 450 horsepower 454. The base Super Sport was quite aggressive looking, and checking the box on a laundry list of options completed the package. Sport hood and deck stripes, cowl induction hood, hood pins, blacked out grille, rear bumper pad, cow bell exhaust tips, Super Sport wheels, etc. raised the bar for street machine appearance. The exterior received a facelift for 1970, giving the classic a more squared up stance. GM, in a stroke of accidental genius, broke from the two year model run pattern, and the 1970 stood alone as a one year design. Even post-1970, they reverted back to the two year design run, leaving the 1970 Chevelle as the only stand alone one year model. EXTERIOR: The all steel body has been completely refinished in Cranberry Red base coat/clear coat. Paint condition is excellent. The finish is smooth, consistent, and has been buffed to a mirror gloss. As shown in the photos, paint quality in the door jams and inner trunk lid is equal to the exterior finish. All gaps and panel fitment is precise. All of the seals, jam seals, vertical seals, and weatherstripping have been replaced. The glass is all in excellent condition. Cowl hood. Black hood and deck stripes were added before the clear coat was applied, so everything is sealed in. New front bumper. New rear bumper with new SS pad. New 15" American Racing rims. Brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires are mounted on the rims, P245/60R15 on the front and P275/60R15 on the rear. New dual sport mirrors. New door handles and SS emblems. The trim on the grille is new, as well as the hood pin kit and cowl hood trim. Wheel house moldings and drip rail moldings are new. Tail light lenses are also new. The slightly larger tires perfectly fill the wheel well, as well as providing an aggressive stance. As stated, the exterior photos in the link reveal every angle of the exterior, including inner trunk lid, inner hood, door jams, etc. This will give you a clear indication of the quality of the restoration. INTERIOR: Factory Black bench seat interior is in excellent condition. The quality of the interior equals the exterior quality. Front and rear seat covers are new. Front and rear door panels, arm rest base, and side panels are new. Both the headliner and dome light have been replaced with new. The package tray is new. Factory AM radio. New GM three spoke steering wheel. Some time during the life of the vehicle, minor alterations were made to the original dash panel, indicating possibly mounting of a custom dash lens or electric extra switches. There are some holes drilled into the panel, on the outer edges and center. A Matte finish Monte Carlo bezel has been installed to clean up the look. The new owner can leave as is, restore the original dash panel, or replace it. Hurst Indy four speed shifter with new shifter boot. New lock ferules and buttons. In addition to all the new seals and weatherstripping, door bumpers and window fuzzies have also been replaced. New carpet. Gauge faces are clear. Two aftermarket gauges mounted discreetly under the dash. New sill plates. New front window cranks. Interior looks almost like the day it left the showroom. DRIVE TRAIN: The engine and engine bay have also been highly detailed. Performance upgrades have also been added. The heart of this Chevelle is the 454 Cu. In. engine. The build began with a mid seventies 454 code TRH truck block. Completely rebuilt and modified for performance. Rebuilt Holley dual feed four barrel carburetor mounted atop an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold. Hydraulic roller cam and valve train. Moroso tall valve covers allow enough clearance for the roller rockers. Rebuilt alternator. Rebuilt high volume fuel pump. MSD distributor. MSD 6AL ignition module with MSD Blaster 2 coil. New MSD Super Conductor 8.5 MM plug wires. Aluminum water pump. Jeg's oil pan. High volume oil pump. New flex fan and shroud. New powder coated Hedman Headers connected to new Flowmaster dual exhaust. Windshield reservoir bottle was even replaced. All new belts and hoses. Rebuilt Borg Warner Super T10 four speed transmission. Rebuilt twelve bolt rear differential with 3.42 gears and posi-traction. F41 suspension. New shocks. Front and rear sway bar. Boxed rear control arms. New power brakes, disc on the front and drum on the back. Power steering. The undercarriage is not as highly detailed as the exterior, but is solid, clean, and finish in frame black. If you are looking for a bone stock, complete numbers matching car, this is not for you. It is also not $60,000+. If you are looking for a clean, restored example that you can cruise in, take to shows, go to the drag strip, or run on the Power Tour, this may be the Muscle Car you have been searching for. The selling price is well below actual value. Don't hesitate on this opportunity. Call Randy at 847 456 7726 with any questions.
