Vehicle Detail

1. DESCRIPTION(PHOTOS AT THE BOTTOM OF LISTING): For sale is a black 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission and 75K miles and more than $8K in upgrades/modifications. The Stratus Coupe is basically the less girly version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse(unlike the Stratus sedan, the coupes were built by Mitsubishi on the 3rd gen eclipse platform). The coupes are basically completely different cars and are quite a bit more reliable than the Stratus sedan(which were built by Dodge). Even though the two share the same name, the coupe was built to be more of a sporty car(with a Mitsubishi 3.0L V6), while the sedan was just another midsize sedan like the Accord(with a Dodge 2.7L V6). Obviously the V6s came with the R/T sport package...the non-RTs got a weak 4 cylinder motor. This is a fairly rare car. There were only 19,044 coupes built in 2002...while they built close to 100,000 sedans. Only a small portion of these were the R/Ts with the 3.0L V6...and even fewer had the coveted manual transmission or leather. Doing a little math, if 30% of these were R/Ts, that leaves us with 5,713 cars. And if 15% of R/Ts were manual....that leaves us just 856 cars. Obviously it's not scientific...but I wouldn't be surprised if there were indeed less than 1,000 manual R/T coupes produced in 2002. This particular car is a fully loaded version with just 75K miles on it(7.5K miles per year). Has leather interior, power everything, windows, power seat(driver's), moon roof, etc(pretty much all the features you'd see in a luxury car except for heated seats). And is in pretty good condition. The car also comes with a lot of extras($8,000+ worth): Performance (~$1,500+) - plenty of grunt - About 260-280hp(butt dyno)...might be more/less powerful...but the car does pull quite well. And best of all, it's very streetable. Most of the power comes on in higher RPMs...so you don't do a burn out at every red light. But since it's a V6, it has plenty of low end grunt...like having a supercharger or turbo on there...a proper fast sports car. - AEM Intake - ~$225 - Custom Made Header - ~$500 - Custom Made Dynamax Exhaust - ~$500 (nice deep sound...sounds like a V8) - Tuned ECU - ~$300 - Some internal work(I think cams...but not 100% sure about the specifics) - Performance Clutch - brand new, very driveable, don't need to be an athlete to drive this. Very close feel to stock cars. - Street legal(still has catalytic converter) Suspension(~$1,300) - handles like it's on rails - Eibach Lowering Springs - ~$300 (no longer has that 4x4 look, but isn't slammed either...perfectly lowered.) - Aftermarket Shocks(red casing...so look to me like they are Koni Reds) - ~$600 (great ride + paired with the springs, it's like having coilovers) - Thick Front and Rear Sway Bars - ~$300 - Custom Blue Upper Front Strut Bar - ~$100 Interior($3,000) - high quality, similar look to the Audi S4/BMW M3 Recaro interior - Custom Made Two Tone Blue/Black Leather Seats(power) - ~$2,000 - Custom Blue Leather Door Inserts - ~$500 - Carbon Fiber Interior Kit - ~$300 - Ractive Carbon Gauges(Water Temp, Oil, Voltage) - ~$150(not hooked up) - Triple Side Pillar - ~$50 Audio/Video(~$2000) - 2 Visor Monitors - 2 Headrest Monitors - 1 Big Monitor in the trunk - 2 speakers in the trunk(subs? I don't know much about car audio) - 2 amps in the trunk - 2 capacitors in the trunk Misc Stuff - Backup Camera - Neons - Custom Shift Knob - Custom Painted Calipers(blue with dodge text), Clone of the Viper look I guess. - Aftermarket Pedals(gas/brake) - Blue Minor Interior Bits - Tint - Blue hoses and fittings in the engine bay - Seat belt shoulder pads - Debadged rear(which with low production numbers means that most people don't even know what kind of car it is) - Speedhut Gauge Cluster Faces - Mesh Grille - Tail Light covers(color matches the trunk bar + turn signals + covers most of the brake lights) - Spoiler(this generation didn't come with a spoiler until 2003...so it's either aftermarket or OEM off another car...flows pretty well with the car's lines and with the tail light covers it really improves the look of the car.) Pretty solid piece, so I don't think it's a cheap fiberglass replica. - + more since I'm probably missing a few things(i.e. pretty sure the brakes are upgraded...not a Brembo big brake kit...probably just some rotors/brake pads) Overall, if you were to take the time to part it out, you could easily make $4,000+ off aftermarket stuff alone(the seats alone would net you $1.5-2K). Condition of the car is as follows: Exterior: Body is in decent condition...has scratches here and there(it's a 10 year old car after all), and the underside of the front bumper is a bit scraped(can't see it when standing or crouching need to crouch and tilt the head to see it...almost lying down on the ground) and there is a very minor ding on the hood...but there are no dents or cracks or anything major. Since it's a black car, it's hard to see the scratches on photos...but they are there(mostly rear), so don't expect show room quality exterior...paint itself is ok, but not perfect(but does clean up well when waxed, as you can see in photos). Wheels are also in very good condition. No curb rash and no peeling paint on the rims(can easily sell them and get some used mid-range wheels like Enkei or Rota for the same price), although might need to get rebalanced since they vibrate a bit at ~75mph. Tasteful exterior mods, no body kit or giant wings here. I'd give the exterior a solid 7. Interior: Very good condition. Pretty much mint. No weird smells or anything of that sort. The only bad thing is that the carpet by the clutch pedal is worn a bit. Everything else is in tip top shape. Also, the radio was taken out. Overall the interior of the car is a solid 8. Mechanical: Mechanically the car is in good condition. The motor sounds great, pulls through all rpms without any kinks, clutch is new so no worries there, transmission shifts smoothly, brakes work fine, ebrake works, heat/cold works. The only negative thing is that the car has a few minor electrical issues(details below). Essentially, minus the electrical issues, it's a perfectly running car(after all, it only has 75K miles...and that's an original engine, not an engine swap). The electrical issues are as follows: - the alternator doesn't seem to work properly. Two different car audio guys said that it will be fixed when you connect a new headunit(due to the way the audio system is wired it needs a headunit)...but just in case that doesn't fix it, you might need a new alternator. If you look on eBay, you can get a new one for $85. I'm not saying, you'll 100% need the alternator, but I want to cover my bases, just in case the audio guys were wrong. The symptom is that the the battery warning light comes on and off from time to time. And when that happens sometimes the brake warning light will also come on...but only when the alternator light comes on...never by itself...and I was told the 2 issues are related. Doesn't seem to affect the brakes, so no worries there. - the foglights are always on...even when the car is turned off. Probably just a bad relay that's stuck in the on position(cheap fix...<$40)...or if you don't need fog lights you can just pull the fuse to fix the issue...they are mostly for show anyways. So overall, nothing major. I doubt it would cost more than $250 to have a mechanic fix everything for you. Since this is a Dodge, repairs cost quite a bit less than german or japanese cars and labor is cheaper(+ since this car is based on the eclipse, if you do need to change the alternator(the big question mark here), apparently it's a if you do it yourself) + note that in that link a few posts down the guy mentions that the alternator and the brake warning lights are linked. Overall, this is probably one of the nicer R/Ts you'll find(not hard, since there are so few of them). It's not perfect, but the issues are fairly minor all things considered, and the aftermarket stuff more than makes up for it. 2. PREVIOUS OWNERS: There were 2 other owners before me. The first bought the car new and drove it for 37K miles. The second built it as a show car for his shop(adult owner). It was very well taken care off...always garaged, proper maintenance... the works. As you can see from the list of modifications, the guy didn't cut any corners and spent the extra bucks to get the high end, quality parts. 3. SUMMARY: You are bidding on a low miles, fairly rare, 5 speed Dodge Stratus R/T Coupe V6 with almost $8,000 worth of extras. It's in pretty good exterior/interior/mechanical condition...but does have a few minor electrical problems. The car is sold AS IS with no reserve. The car is listed solely on eBay...so there'll be no "oh the car sold locally" just because the final auction price is low. I also won't end the auction early. The top bid, gets you the car...period. NOTE: I bought a replacement headunit on 10/5 on eBay...so if this car doesn't sell, it'll only be relisted after it's fixed....so if you want to save money this is the time to bid. Because when it's fixed, I'll be starting the auction off at $6K and there'll be a lot more competition. If you do win the auction, you are welcome to the headunit(probably will take a week for it to get here though)....it's a Jensen in dash CD/MP3/DVD multimedia head unit, so not some cheapo pepboy's special number. 4. PRICE: The KBB values are listed above. I'm making the starting bid at $4,000(which is less than the "fair condition" value...even though the car would actually rate good on the KBB scale)...and the auction is listed with no reserve. At $4,000-$6,000 the car is a real steal(with the aftermarket stuff it'd be worth $5K-6K without an engine...i.e. rolling shell)...if you sell off the seats and the audio/video components...you essentially get a low mileage rare manual 2002 R/T for next to nothing/free. Or keep everything and have a unique sporty car at a lower price than most beaters with 150-160K miles. Essentially, the extras will more than cover the repairs the car requires...and then some. Even if you spend a bit to get it running perfectly, you still get a killer deal thanks to all the extras the car comes with. And remember, that's just KBB pricing which doesn't work that well for rare or low mileage cars. Low mileage cars like this tend to sell for quite a bit more since they are so rare. On Autotrader...in the WHOLE country, there are a grand total of 4 manual Stratus R/T coupes with under 85K miles(of all years). LINK * an 02 w/62K miles for $9K * an 01 w/38K miles for $7K * an 02 w/71K miles for $8.5K * an 04 w/66K miles for $9.5K So please keep that in mind when bidding. When fixed, the car would be valued at ~$6-8K by itself and the ~$8K in mods would bring up the value as well. 5. PAYMENT TERMS: - $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 12 hours of auction end via Paypal. - The full amount should be sent within 5 days. Payment is to be done either in cash(in person) or through a bank wire(not one of those wire transfer places). No money orders or checks(unless you want to go together to the bank, so I can see them issue you a certified check in person, so I know it's real and not a forged check). And again, the car is sold as is with no warranty and all sales are final. - The final bid is the full amount that you'll pay. There are no extra fees...and I don't collect taxes. - U.S. Buyers Only - Car has a clear title(VIN #: 4B3AG52H72E005248) 6. OTHER ITEMS: Getting here - If you win the auction, getting here is very easy. If you can get to the New York Penn Station...you can get to my town via a train.(I'm 5 mins away from the train station, and I can pick you up). If you decide to fly in, I'm 30 minutes away from the Newark Airport(EWR)...which I can pick you up from for free. LaGuardia/JFK airports are a bit of a drive...so if you want me to pick you up from those, I'll need $100 to cover the cost of gas/tolls. If you are driving here, my zipcode is 07078...so just plug that into Google maps to see the distance. Driving home - the car is perfectly driveable as long as the battery holds out(the alternator works intermittently...so it's not too bad)...although if you plan a long trip...I'd probably tow it or have it shipped just in case. Shipping doesn't cost much, and once you factor in the cost of gas and tolls...the difference is pretty negligible. Shipping the car - If you need the car shipped, I'm willing to help you do that. I can work from home if needed, so I can always be around for the shipping truck during the week. Obviously the buyer has to make the arrangements, so if you need to find out how much shipping will be, take a look at www.uship.com to get automatic quotes(my zipcode is 07078). Roughly, it seems like you pay $1-1.5 per mile with these trucking companies for short distances...and the mile rates go down the further away you are. Please note, U.S. bidders only. 7. FURTHER QUESTIONS: I prefer to be up front about all the possible issues. When you get here, the car I described and what you see in pictures is exactly what you'll get. I tried to list everything I'd want to know about the car, but I might have missed something...so if you have any questions or if I forgot to mention something important...let me know and I'll get you an answer asap. Full disclosure is the name of the game here. I don't want you to have any surprises when you come pick the car up. So please ask any additional questions you might have up front. The bottom line, is that with this car you won't get any surprises when you come pick it up. You are welcome to come check the car out in person to see that it's indeed as described...or bring a mechanic over to take a look at it with you. I'd even prefer it, since it means you'll bid higher to get the car(like I said, essentially the car itself without any mods is worth about $4-4.5K in it's current condition according to KBB and close to $6-8K when fixed(based on market value)...and then you have $8K+ worth of modifications to take into account). So the value is definitely there...even if the bidding goes up to 7-8K. Anything less than that, and you'll be getting the car at a steal. So bid early, bid often, bid high...and let the highest bidder win. 8. PHOTOS: Notice that the build plate states that it was built by Mitsubishi.
