Vehicle Detail

I boutght this car from the original owner a few weeks ago with plans to restore it, but it's too big a project for me. It's a good (rust-free) candidate for restoration, or you can just have fun using it as a daily driver, as I do. ****What works on the car: Transmission (though shifting from Park to Reverse can be clunky) Engine (it purrs in the city or on the highway) Cruise Control (it was optional) Factory AM/FM stereo with 8-track player (optional) Headlights, tail lights, brake lights, dash lights, courtesy lights 6-way power driver's seat (passenger-side is manual) Power windows Power door locks (optional) Power trunk-lid release in glove box (optional) Remote control outside mirrors (optional) Tilt and telescoping steering wheel (optional) Fuel economy meter (optional) ****What doesn't work on the car: Tempmatic climate control system Digital clock Power antenna As for the body, it is very straight, except for a small dent in the front bumper (see photo). The original Firethorn red metallic is faded and the rear bumper fillers are just about gone. The interior is in excellent condition, including seats, carpet, headliner and rear package shelf. There's a small crack in the top of the dashboard (see photo). There is an exhaust leak. The glass, including the windshield, is in great condition-- no cracks or chips. The doors both have cracked armrests, but the driver's side has been covered (and it matches very well). The optional landau roof is in good condition. There are a few marks on the dashboard where the previous owner had probably mounted a radar detector. The hubcaps are in great shape. I'd estimate tire tread at 60%. The door hinges function properly and keep the doors open at the middle and wide-open positions like they're supposed to. This Toronado comes with the original showroom factory window sticker, the factory build sheet, original dealer invoice, owners manual, and even the Oldsmobile license plate cover that was on the car until the plates arrived from DMV. NOTE: The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to remove the listing at any time prior to auction close. On Sep-28-12 at 06:44:52 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I took the car to Meineke to have the exhaust noise diagnosed, and they said the exhaust manifold gaskets need replacing.......estimate of $513. The exhaust noise is only present when accelerating, not when idling. More detail about the heating/AC system: the fan settings from "hi to low" work properly, but the temperature cannot be adjusted--seems to be just outside air flowing through. Also, nothing comes out of the dash or defrost vents, only through the floor vents. It does appear that the compressor comes on. The hard "thunk" sound from the transmission when you shift out of Park into Reverse is also now occurring when you shift out of Park into Drive. I added some tranny fluid, but that hasn't made any difference. I have not had the tranny serviced since I bought the car. It should be noted that, once in Drive, the shifts are smooth and quiet. .
