Normal.dotm 0 0 1 348 1984 Sundberg-Ferar 16 3 2436 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Thanks for looking at my 1955 Willys CJ5 (the first year they produced the CJ5, the "Universal Jeep"). I believe the mileage to be accurate although I cannot be sure. The serial number is 10787, which I think makes this the 787th CJ5 ever produced. The paint is a little rough but the body is remarkably solid. The guy I bought it from told me he purchased it from somebody who had found it at an orchard called Fernhaven (you can still see the remnants of the letters on the hood). I have replaced the battery with a 6 volt Optima. It also has new points, plugs, wires, condenser, coil, voltage regulator, and a carb kit. It runs and drives perfectly. You could probably drive it anywhere, as long as you don’t need to go much over 50mph. The brakes have been professionally rebuilt (including the parking brake). There is an entirely new OEM-type cloth covered wiring harness that was professionally installed. Everything works: lights, bright lights, signal lights, flashers, cigarette lighter, 4-wheel-drive, etc. This Jeep has the original factory heater which works great. The wheels were sandblasted down to bare metal and painted the original Julep Green color. There are 5 brand new Firestone vintage non-directional tires. I had the seats professionally reupholstered in a gray vinyl which is almost identical to what I believe was the original vinyl that was on the back seat. The windshield has the optional tilt out glass. The vacuum windshield wiper works like it is new. The body is really solid. There is a little bit of rust by the rear tail lights and there are two small spots in the floor where it has rusted through. They are each about the size of a quarter, one underneath the gas tank and one between the seats. The floors where your feet go are original and very solid. I have debated painting the body, which would be really easy to do, but I really like the "Jeep patina." It's hard to tell, but I believe the paint to be mostly original. I did, however, use rubbing compound to rub down to the original "4 Wheel Drive" stencil on the tailgate. The original lock-out hubs are the optional Warn "lock-o-matic" hubs that you do not need to turn unless you want four wheel engine braking. If you just use the shift lever to go into four wheel drive, all four wheels will pull without getting out and turning the hubs. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
