Vehicle Detail
You are viewing a very rare "Basement Find" example of a 1965 Triumph TR4A IRS with the very desirable "Factory Overdrive". Vin # CTC50713. Odometer reads 74,616 miles. The TR4 is just out of long term storage and has been "basement stored" for the last 20 years. That's correct, it has spent the last 20 years stored in a temperature controlled family basement. I am offering the TR4 for so that I can concentrate on finishing my TR3 restoration. I have set the reserve low which makes this a great value for the Triumph enthusiast. TR4's have become very rare and collectable, and they will only continue to appreciate as TR3 prices have done. Please read this detailed description completely prior to bidding. I purchased this Triumph from an older couple that had owned it for the past 30 years. It had been as a weekend car during the nice weather for local drives. Very few miles were put on the Triumph over the years. It was last on the road in 1992 and as stated was stored in the basement of their home. Heated in the winter time, and air conditioned in the summer. Such a nice way to treat your beloved sports car! As stated, it's been off the road for 20 years. It will require the expected work that would be expected for a Sports Car that has been stored. It will need to be gone through to make it safe for the road again. Brakes, suspension, carbs, tuneup are some of the items that will need to be to gone through. Some fresh gas was all it took to get the TR4 to start right up! Engine compression is excellent showing 175 psi per cylinder which is very impressive. Oil pressure is strong as well as shown by the oil pressure gauge. Engine runs rough, and will need to have the carbs adjusted. Gauges are working except for the speedometer. Lights are all working including the blinkers. I was told that the Overdrive worked fine, but I have not tested it. The overdrive solenoid does engage when the switch is turned on and off. Clutch works as it should with no apparent issues. Brake pedal is low and will at the very least need to be bled, but really should be gone through. The blinker switch had been replaced with a toggle switch, and the OD switch broke but still functions since I can hear the solenoid engage as I just stated. The TR4 starts easily however after sitting for a while, the carbs seem to need to be primed. The starter and charging system work fine and the battery is in good shape. Original air cleaners & spare tire are not shown, but included. The body is in nice original condition un-restored condition. It was repainted many years ago and the paint is showing it's age - specifically on the trunk lid that has some small bumps in the paint. Too small to see in the pictures. The paint still is very presentable as shown in the pictures. As you can see in the trunk, the original color was British Racing Green. The spare tire well is in good shape as you can see in the picture. The floor pan and frame are in excellent condition as shown in the pictures. The frame shows no rust or evidence of previous repairs. The body panels are all original and show no evidence of previous rust repair. The rocker panels are all original with the original factory seams. There is some small bubbling in the rocker panels - the pictures show this area which are in the same spot on both sides. Those areas are the only rust that I could detect. Both the left and right lower front fenders are rust free. Both the dog leg areas are in nice shape with no rust. Also, both rear fenders are rust free including the seams which are extremely rust prone and difficult to repair. Both the front and rear bumpers are in nice original condition with excellent chrome. As you can see, the grill is in nice condition as well. The interior is in good original condition. The seats are in very nice condition with no rips or tears. The original door panels are in nice original condition. The dash was fitted with a wood insert back in the day - it looks ok. It has a very nice wood steering wheel which is a nice "period correct" upgrade. The radio doesn't work, and the radio mount has some missing rocker switches. I suspect that the radio mount may be from another year TR4, but cannot be sure. The convertible top looks like it was just installed, however it is the original top that has been on for 30 years. It is a testament as to how well it was preserved in the "basement". Known issues: Wipers and heater fan are not working. Blinker switch and OD switch will need to be replaced at some point, but both operate correctly. Will need full tune up including Carbs adjusted - engine runs a bit rough. Missing lower dash pad underneath glove box door. Radio not working. The "fine print" If you have 5 or less feedback transactions, you must contact me prior to bidding. Also, if you have 2 or more negative feedback ratings in the last year, you must contact me as well. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction. If the deposit has not been received, the Triumph will be offered to the next highest bidder. The balance is due within 7 days of the end of the auction. The Triumph must be picked up within 10 days of the auction end date. A $10.00 per day storage fee will be charged unless prior arrangements have been made. I have sold several vintage cars to overseas buyers with the buyers being extremely pleased with the sale. My 100% feedback rating speaks for itself, so you can bid with confidence. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. I will consider ending the auction early for the motivated buyer that would like to make a serious offer. I do reserve the right to end the auction early. Once again, this is a "low reserve" auction. On Sep-13-12 at 18:43:58 PDT, seller added the following information: All of the chrome trim is in nice shape with no dents or damage. Carpet is in good condition.
