Vehicle Detail
The history of this one of a kind fully restored, eye catching Ghia goes back to 1995 when I purchased it. It was originally a semi-automatic 3 speed car that was converted to manual transmission in 1996. Originally this car belonged to a retired marine kernel in Richmond VA. The car went back to Europe some time in the 80s and back to the States in 1999 when I moved here from Europe with my family. A complete restoration on the car was started in 2000 and was completed in 2002. I spend over $10,000 on the restoration work, body, paint (there are 5 coats of the final paint), trim, carpets (vintage NOS Mercedes), lining, seats (Porsche 911 Recaro re-upholstered), door panels, convertible canvas top, wood bow, engine and the list goes on. The car has a narrow front beam installed so the Riviera alloy wheels fit and look really nice. This is a reluctant sale as I never thought I would want to sell this car, but the the time has come to sell some of my toys to pay for my daughters college. Here are more details abut the car from what I remember to the best of my knowledge. Any questions please e-mail me. I will answer any and every question. Serious bidders only. Please don't bid if you have + feedback of less then 10. - full restoration started in 2000 and completed in 2002 - bare metal body restoration, spent $10,000 on the body and the interior restoration work - painting was done by a professional car body shop in Denver, the paint still shines, there are 5 coats of the final mellow yellow, new beetle code paint - new high quality canvas top including the bow, is in like new condition, latches fine and fits tight. - all new interior vinyl, front and rear seats covers, door panels, headliner, carpet. All beautifully color matched. - Porsche 911 Recaro seats - 0 miles new aluminum case, bored to 1776 cc, type 1 engine, built by a VW air cooled racing pro shop Painters Grinding (TM) in Denver, polished heads - new clutch - dual Kadron Solex carburetors, the best carburetors for this engine size - stock type 1 transmission with EMPI short move shifter, shifts excellent, feels great - new starter motor - narrow front beam, so the Riviera alloy wheels fit just right - Riviera alloy wheels with good tires - new gas tank and all the connecting hoses - brand new 2 weeks old battery ($110), has full 75 months warranty (included) - almost new after market exhaust system, slightly louder then the stock - new brake disk rotors, calipers and pads, - original owner's manual from 1968 - spare original wheels and tires - new driver door hinges - after market steering wheel (the original steering wheel will be included if you want to revert it) - extra oil pressure gauge - Euro style single blade bumpers conversion - Porsche 356 side mirrors The car drives very nice and is quite fast for a 1776 cc Ghia. I just replaced the engine oil (used Castrol GTX). The top cover is included. Not so good: It is not a showroom car although it looks like it from 10 yards. There are some paint scratches and cracks from age and sun and from kids leaning their bikes on the car. The engine lid doesn't lock, I have the latch but there is no pullup cable, didn't bother me the slightest. The bottom trim of the dash needs to be mounted (have the pieces). The windshield wipers fluid tank is not installed, but I have the tank. The horn is not installed, but the original horns will be included. Brake pads are squicky (I think they are ceramic). The tachometer is included but is not connected (it connects to the coil), I will include the schematic. The clock doesn't work. Please ask me any questions before bidding. I will answer each and every question promptly. I described the car the best I can. The car is sold AS-IS, with no warranty whatsoever. This is a reluctant sale, as I need money to pay for kids college. You will not find a Ghia like this again. You MUST have a Paypal account before you can bid on this car. A deposit of $500 is required within 24 hours of auction end. The rest of the payment is due in no later then 5 days after auction ends. I can arrange shipping to anywhere in the US.
