Vehicle Detail
1970 Mercury Montego MX EXTREMELY RARE (when was the last time you saw one?) base model to the Cyclone, the historic American muscle car and NASCAR champion from the aero wars of the late 60s and early 70s, unique RUST FREE body style in ORIGINAL Competition Orange color wraps standard Ford mechanicals (all Mustang, Fairlane, etc.) for easy maintenance and hot rodding. 302 ci V8 2bbl with C4 automatic trans RELIABLE DAILY DRIVER get thumbs up from EVERYBODY. The car is basically stock as it rolled of the factory floor in Lorraine OH, August 1969 with period correct modifications like Keystone Kustomag wheels, cherry bomb muffler, air shocks and Sun tach on column. Original owners had car clear into their retirement years, sold to a young couple in Santa Barbara who had it for a few years then I purchased from them in 2001 with 128k miles. Currently 163k miles. I have ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL addressed to one Capt Rogers (Navy man? from La Jolla). Car is registered with Torino Montego Registry. Repairs include top end head work with hardened seats, C4 tranny rebuild, complete brake system replaced and complete front end rebuild w 550# rate springs for improved driveability MULHOLLAND SAFE. Front tires excellent condition, rears gotta go. Respray (stripped to metal) from 2006 is starting to wear thin but otherwise OK 20 footer. New vinyl top installed last year- all receipts from 2001 to present cover many other repairs. Includes extra center grill parts, original Philco AM radio, most of the badgeing and trim parts (removed, see pics), tune-up tools and old factory service manual (partial). Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines with Montego hop up articles from 98- 2006 and Motors manuals from that era available. KNOWN ISSUES: Minor cosmetic issues and slight body dings in left rear corner (valance below bumper easily removed) and left front fender ahead of wheelwell (on-car repair, barely noticeable at distance), otherwise straight as you can get considering the factory builds of that era. Interior all original except front seating area replaced 2 years ago. Now front seat back is starting to go, carpet looks OK and is serviceable, but will need to go soon. Headliner stitching dried out and separating (see pic), crack in dash (finally, after 40+ years in the California sun). AM/FM cassette installed but antennae or speakers not hooked up. Column shift bushing is usual Ford problem from late 60s early 70s. If you know Fords, then you are familiar with starting procedure and that shifter could drop from park to reverse sitting at idle. A/C removed and heater not hooked up. Hey, this is a CALIFORNIA CAR. Radiator needs to be replaced, rear tires and other minor annoyances. Other than the above, car is RELIABLE DAILY DRIVER, SMOG EXEMPT, NOT SALVAGE - your main expense will be gas and oil. Car is ripe for modification. I did not do major mods because of super rare original competition orange color. Prefer that this rare gem go to an enthusiast or very caring owner that will give this very RARE and cool car the TLC it needs. Ladies, I know you love this car so unless you have experience or a desire to learn the care and feeding, please have a boyfriend or good pal who KNOWS 60 -70s AMERICAN CARS otherwise it could eat you out of house and home $6500 CLEAR TITLE IN HAND REGISTERED TIL JUNE 2013 **** SMOG EXEMPT **** NOT SALVAGE*** This car would be similar to Ford Mustang Fairlane Falcon Mercury Cyclone Comet muscle car classic car vintage car hot rod custom Kustom Kar FoMoCo Autolite
