Vehicle Detail
You are looking at an ORIGINAL 1 California Owner 1972 Mercury Cougar 2 door Hardtop. This is a pretty much unmolested original paint survivor car that needs a fairly simple cosmetic restoration. It is a well equipped example that is a 1 owner car from California. It is a very original car and that coupled with its extremely solid body makes this car a worthy candidate for a very straight forward restoration. This 1972 Mercury Cougar 2 door hardtop is an ORIGINAL Medium Brown Metallic H-code 351-2V car with an FMX 3-speed Automatic Transmission and connected to a bullet proof 9 inch 2.75 geared conventional axle. This car is well equipped and documented as such per the Deluxe Marti Report. This 1972 Mercury Cougar 2 door Hardtop was ordered in the Los Angeles, CA Sales District (DSO 52) when new and was a transplant here to Atlanta several years ago. It was a Stock order that was sold NEW at Pascal Dilday Lincoln-Mercury Inc. in San Diego, CA. This 1 owner California Cougar was further equipped with these other factory optional/featured items to include: Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Whisperaire Air Conditioner, Décor Group, Appearance Protection Group, Console, Color Keyed Racing Mirrors, Tinted Glass, E78x14 WSW Tires, Tilt Steering Column with Deluxe 2-spoke Steering Wheel, AM Radio and NOX emission system. The door tag info is as follows and as listed on the Deluxe Marti Report BODY 65D = Cougar 2 door Hardtop Color 5H = Medium Brown Metallic Paint Trim CF = Medium Ginger Clarion Knit Décor Bucket Seat Interior DSO 52 = Los Angeles, CA ordering district Axle 2 = 2.75 conventional Axle with 9 inch ring gear Trans X = FMX 3-speed Automatic Transmission This car still has it’s ORIGINAL PAINT and INTERIOR!! The car is for the most part rust free with the exception of the very lower passenger rear 1/4 panel. This is fairly minor and will need a minor repair section done. The rest of the body is ROCK SOLID on this car. The Hood, Fenders, Doors, and trunk all nice dry California pieces!! The Floors and Rails are NICE as you would expect from an always California car. Being as this car is still in it’s ORIGINAL PAINT you know exactly what you are getting without any surprises. The 351C engine runs very good even though the car has been sitting for a number of years. The FMX Transmission shifts smoothly and goes through all the gears as it should. The 2.75 9 inch Rear end in the car performs flawlessly!! This car has been sitting for several years and yet this cat’s Power Steering is smooth and precise with out the usual slop these cars can get with a lot of rough road miles on them. The Power Disc Brakes stop the car as they should. The suspension is still in good condition and the car actually rides decent while I have been driving it around the shop and neighborhood to get some of the long term storage cobwebs out of it. The wipers, horn, heater and blower work as they should, the lights and turn signals all work and blink as they should! The AM Radio still works and actually sounds decent on the local talk radio station. The Air Conditioning is all there and intact but the belt has been removed. It appears as if the compressor will need a new AC clutch. The AC system is completely intact and still sealed. The interior of this car is the original and is in very good driver condition. Its very clean but not perfect (see pics). The dash has a couple of cracks as do the door panels but overall it has a very nice interior for a 40+ year old car!! The fact that this was not a modified Hot Rod and run to death by a bunch of 16 year old’s is evident in how this car has survived for going on 40+ years. Where most of these cars were ragged out, modified, and usually wrapped around a telephone pole within 5 years of being sold new; this Cougar has withstood the test of time. There are no headers, no aluminum intakes, cut up dash’s with aftermarket radio’s, door panels and package trays with speaker holes……Just a clean original unmolested 1 owner car. It would be an absolutely gorgeous car when finished in a fresh coat of Medium Brown Metallic Brown with complementing Medium Ginger interior. With an equipment list such as this it is sure to be quite the conversation piece at the cruise in! I do have some of the original dealer document which I will include in the sale of this car. The Magnum 500’s on this car are off another car of mine. They are being used for photographic purposes only and thus are NOT a part of this auction. This car was originally equipped with steel wheels and Cougar hub caps and I will have these wheels and caps back on the Cougar at time of delivery. I have too many projects and need to thin out the herd some. This Cougar really needs to be in the hands of someone who can get to work on it and give it the cosmetic restoration it deserves. I will be auctioning some of my other Ford and Mercury Muscle cars soon so that I can focus on some of my stalled/backlogged restorations. So please watch for my other auctions!! I do have this Cougar listed elsewhere and as such reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. Please note that I had this Cougar sold on ebay earlier this year and had a major health issue requiring hospitalization that precluded me from completing the transaction. Even though I kept the buyer informed/updated he grew impatient and gave me the only negative feedback I have ever received on Ebay. I felt I needed to address this in case anyone had any question in reference to my credibilty based on this feedback, though I would hope 1200 plus positives would speak volumes about it. Please look at the pictures and ask any questions BEFORE you bid!! I want you to be sure of what you are bidding on and for us both to be satisfied with the Torino GT's described condition and its sale. I expect a deposit within 24 hours of auctions end and the balance of payment within 7 days of auction end. This 1972 Mercury Cougar is a 40+ year old unrestored car and as such is being auctioned 'as-is, where-is' and 'as-described' with no warranties either expressed or implied. I have described this 1972 Mercury Cougar accurately so please read the auction text and look at the pictures carefully and make sure this is what you want before bidding. If you are not sure please do not bid. I take my auctions seriously and so should you. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!! More than just a pretty picture. Try Vendio Image Hosting.
