Vehicle Detail
1958 Buick Century Riviera Hardtop Coupe Original, one family owned, 1958 Buick Century Riviera hardtop coupe. Offered by second owner with approximately 74,000 miles. Recent repaint by the first owner matching the OEM “Laurel Mist” factory color scheme. The rest of the automobile is original factory GM, with unbelievably nice coral -n- cream rocket age upholstery and fittings. This car was assembled on November 15, 1957, at the South Gate, Calif assembly plant, and was subsequently sold new at the Moench-Davis Buick dealership in Los Angeles on December 23, 1957. It spent its entire life in Southern California, until the original purchaser and family moved to Las Vegas, NV in the late 1990’s. They sold it to the current owner in 2010. The car was then inspected, and any parts or components replaced or rebuilt as needed. All new parts & service within last 24 months: Ø New correct battery Ø Fresh tune-up, plugs, points, and condenser Ø 4 bbl carb rebuild Ø Fuel filter Ø Air filter Ø Fuel pump Ø Trans serviced Ø Radiator, inspected, flushed, new anti-freeze Ø Belts Ø Brakes complete service including new hoses, DOT 3 fluid Ø Oil change, filter Ø Water pump Ø New complete power brake unit and master cylinder Ø Heavy duty radial white wall tires Ø Front end alignment This ’58 Buick 60-series model number 66R (only 8110 total produced) features the Buick performance line 300 hp, 364 cid “nailhead” V8 engine, which produces plenty of power, along with the reliable variable pitch Dynaflow automatic transmission. The car runs, drives, and handles nicely, runs cool, brakes and stops smoothly. All other components and gauges function well. With the exception of the speedo, which needs servicing. A listing of the known options, factory or dealer installed: v Power brakes v Power steering v Deluxe wipers and windshield washer v Sonomatic radio works perfectly v Finned aluminum front brake drums v Original spare tire, jack, and trunk mat v Dealer installed Buick heavy duty undercoating v Safety buzzer speedometer v 3:23-1 rear axle ratio v Original owner paperwork included Issues that can be addressed at the buyer’s discretion are: o driver’s door flat glass has crack (new replacement is included), all other glass is GM factory and excellent; o the stock turn signal lever was replaced a few years ago with a period accessory unit that works perfectly (the stock lever and parts are included to return it to OEM status); o there are two areas of the otherwise beautifully intact upholstery that need attention, the driver’s side armrest leatherette material shows deterioration from use, and the glovebox door padding is cracked around the glovebox key lock; o the carpet, headliner, and all other padding are excellent; o the chrome is decent throughout, with some finish dulling, the top of the rear bumper showing the most patina, otherwise all bumpers and chrome surfaces are straight and intact, the stainless trim is generally very good with the exception of various minor dings and scuffs, the two areas needing the most attention are the driver’s side stainless spear point which has been dented and also has a small perforation, as well as a badly scuffed lower sweep spear edge where it meets the door; Notwithstanding these few issues, this is a very presentable survivor type original Southern California-Nevada car with solid sheet metal, rockers, floors, and drivetrain, that can been driven and enjoyed around town and at highway speeds. I've been on eBay since it started and I've never seen bid retractions like this. No one could possibly enter the wrong amounts to that degree. Please explain. - tenorcat Hello Bill! We just saw it after your message here. These bidders we have NEVER heard of before. We will say that the previous high bidder emailed us and demanded that we settle the auction at his bid price of $15,000 on Monday, one day into the auction. We refused in the true spirit of the auction, so we suppose this is his retaliation. Ebay read the email from him trying to convince us to sell the car off auction. He is justifiably blocked from further bidding and we reported him. We reported all three of these guys to Ebay. They are disciplining all of them. Ebay says that it is obvious that the two guys who bid and retracted immediately were trying to find out the reserve price, because they could NOT have entered the wrong amount (determined by the sequence of numbers they entered). We've had a lot of interest in this car, and have potential buyers who haven't shown their hand yet. The worst part of this bid retracting is that it can undermine other bidder’s confidence. Ebay informs us, and it has been our observation as well, that there have been numerous incidents of manipulation, false bids, purposeful non-payment, and other sorts of unethical shenanigans on the part of bidders on Ebay Motors to coerce auction outcomes. Thank You for your concern and consideration!~Timechanic
