I must sell this 1978 Landcruiser FJ-40 that I bought in 2000 as a project car that I was never able to finish. I spent way to much money on parts and was unable to finish the body. My loss is your gain. The body on this 'cruiser is in rough shape, but it has all doors and hardtop. Mechanically the car is in very good shape. It has a rebuilt 2-F high perfomance engine from Manafre. Engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, connecting rods and appropriate parts are hot tanked in an acid bath to remove most sludge, and debris. They are then baked to dry any residual unwanted materials. After drying comes shot peening to remove dried material, aid in inspecting for cracks, and relieve stress. Cylinders are bored and honed by a machine that uses the crankshaft bore for mounting, and alignment, thus assuring cylinders are perfectly round and exactly perpendicular to the crankshaft center line, unlike machines that use the top of the block for alignment, which allows irregularities in the block surface to be translated into irregularities in bore alignment. This precise alignment reduces friction and vibrations in your engine, and promotes better ring sealing and longer ring life. Crankshafts are magnifluxed, checked for straightness, ground and polished to Toyota specs, then balanced with resized connecting rods, pistons, pins, rings, flywheel**, and front pulley.*** All lifters, oil pump, freeze plugs, rod bearings, main bearings and camshaft bearings are replaced. Cylinder heads are magnifluxed, surfaced, and have all valve guides replaced. Specialized machinery that uses 5 carbide blades to precisely cut seats to three angles is used, yielding a smooth precise seat surface for optimum sealing. Valves are matched to individual seats, and tested with a device that measures each ports vacuum holding ability. There is simply no other engine you can buy that has the features, and the attention to detail as these." This cruiser also has a RARE Australia 5 speed rebuilt Toyota transmission. This truck can crawl like no other in low gear. It has new 31.5 inch supper swamper tires with minimal mileage. This car has been sitting on block in a garage for the last 6 years. I haven't had the time or the money to work on it. It also has the original 4 speed transmission you can keep as a spare. I can only hope this Landcruiser will go to a good home that will be able to restore it to the condition that I dreamed of. Significant body work would be needed to get this vehicle into show condition. Likely panels will need to be replaced. Wiring - I started re-wiring, but never finished. I got enough done to get the vehicle running, but some "features" such as turn signals, windshield wipers, horn, etc have not been completed. The wires are in place but need to be ran and connected.Parking Brake - There is no parking brake on this vehicle. The original transmission had the parking break on it and this was replaced with 5 speed which has no parking brake. This has never been a problem as I leave it in 1st gear when parked. Lack of Use - As I mentioned, this vehicle has been sitting in my garage for the past 6 years. I put fuel stabilizer in the gas and put in on blocks to save the tires. It has always started very easily every time I tried. The battery is dead. Hard Top/Doors - The pictures shown with the hard top are not how the vehicle is in now. The hard top/hard doors are not installed, but are included in the auction. Due to the above reasons, this vehicle is being sold "AS IS". This would need to be refinished. On Aug-10-12 at 15:07:15 PDT, seller added the following information:Things I forgot to add in the above discription. -Brakes have been redone with hi performance brake pads and rotors in front and new shoes on the rear drums. The flex brake lines were replaced with stainless steel lines. Also, the master cylinder was replaced with a new OEM part and brake booser was rebuilt. -New High Performance Radiator -Rear waterproof marine speakers -I'll throw in the high lift jack to whomever wins the auction. -I'm planning on installing a new battery so the vehicle will start and drive great for the new owner. -Since the rebuild, this engine has only run on Mobile 1 Full Synthetic oil. -High performance K&N air filter on the weber carbeurator.On Aug-14-12 at 20:08:34 PDT, seller added the following information: This afternoon (8/14) I replaced the battery, cleaned out the carbeurator, added fresh gas, and soaked the pistons with "miracle" oil and got the truck running. It started on the first try and runs great. Just wanted to let eveyone know that the truck is running good and is in great mechinical condition before the last day of bidding.
