Up for auction is a nice example of a classic 1989 Mercedes 560SL convertible. The car was donated to a nationally renowned charitable foundation that I personally support. As a favor to them I occasionally assist with the liquidation of high end donations such as this Mercedes. The auction will start at $999 with NO RESERVE and will sell to the highest bidder. We will not sell the car outside the auction. My disclaimer is as follows. Being a donation there is no history, maintenance records or any information other than what is contained herein. My description provided below is based on my personal observation and a very limited mechanical inspection of the vehicle. I am not a mechanic nor have any body shop experience so my observations are purely an amateur assessment of the condition as I see it. Since the vehicle was donated it is being sold in as is and where is condition. The vehicle starts, engages gears, runs, drives, and sounds perfectly normal. There is no smoke from the tail pipe. The vehicle has 96k original miles on the odometer. As you can see from the photos it is in very nice condition considering its vintage. The paint, interior, engine compartment, and overall condition show signs of minor wear and tear consistent with the mileage. The convertible top is also in good condition although the plastic rear window does show signs of discoloration and oxidation. The car can be viewed by appointment by calling Eder at 714-768-1681. It is located in Costa Mesa, California 92626.On Aug-01-12 at 11:22:47 PDT, seller added the following information: The a/c does not appear to blow cold and some of the gauges (gas/oil) do not appear to be functional. There is a trim piece missing from the side of the passenger seat.
