1974 VW THING TYPE 181 CONVERTIBLE Body-off Restoration This is a great Arizona car. Body-off restoration included Rhino-lined floor pans and undercoating. Light use since the restoration. Speedometer rebuilt and shows 152 miles - Actual mileage is unknownThe stock 1600 engine has Full Flow oil, and has been resealed. Didn't find a thing wrong with the engine when inspected during the reseal. It has been tuned-up and runs great. Just installed (before this ad) new Convertible Top and Frame with matching Side Curtains from The Thing Shop.Exhaust is stainless steel from The Thing Shop. The transmission is rebuilt. Front end is completely rebuilt drum to drum. All brake lines, hoses, cylinders, etc... have been replaced. All new wheel bearings. New shocks. All new C/V joints. All new rubber - fender welt, deck and hood seals, etc... New Acapulco blue and white stripe seat covers. Front and rear hitch. And many, many other new parts from The Thing Shop! Willing to put on a new set of tires of buyers choice - up to $400. Tires have not been installed prior to this sale because we want the new owner to make their own choice. It would be extremely difficult to restore a car to this state for less than $25K. This is a fun car that was built to be used at a beach house in Mexico. We went to extremes to make the car hold up in the harsh climate. Therefore, this car is reliable, durable and practical. This was built for a friend of the owner of The Thing Shop. The seats are darker blue than what shows in the one picture of the floor boards. We had to brighten the picture to see the floor boards and it washed out the color of the seats. The other pictures with the doors open show the darker blue.
