Vehicle Detail
This is an exceptionally well preserved original car. I bought it in 1998 from the original owner, who was in his mid 80's. At the time, it had just over 52,000 miles. He had bought it in the town I live in, as a "Sunday drive" car. His son told me he only drove it to Spokane once. It has the original owner's manual, service records ( remember $5.00 oil changes?) and a box full of 1950-60's memorablia from the trunk and glove compartment. It also comes with some spares and extra hub caps. By the way, verything I needed to buy for it was in stock at NAPA. When I bought it, a mechanic friend put all new red rubber hoses, replaced all filters, plug wires, etc. Also we had the radiator and transmission flushed, etc. etc. I wanted it to be mechanically sound. I used it as my daily driver for about 5-6 years, but never in the winter. Then I got into motorcycles, so it has not been driven much in the last couple of years. It does start and runs great, for a 53 year old car. It has dual exhaust, dual antenna, really cool side view mirrors. The interior is in very good condition, even the steering wheel is still clear. The vinyl dash is still soft after more than 50 years. There are a few nicks and dings from keys/ rings, etc. on the metal parts of the doors. In the engine compartment, the original water bag for the windshield washer is still there. People still say wow! when they see this car. I did replace the carpet because it was beginning to break down. I've always stored it with Stabil and changed the oil, even though I don't drive it much. Now the 53 year old reality: *The paint is nearly gone in some areas. The primer is showing-- it is not rust. This car has almost no rust. A bit of surface rust here and there. All the floors and trunk are rock solid. The original trunk liner is there. *There are two pieces of chrome missing, but available from vintage parts houses, last time I checked. * the elderly owner pulled out in front of someone and was hit on the rear quarter- this was repaired/ repainted. *Some of the stitching in the seats is coming loose, but hey, it's 53 years old. There are no rips or tears in the fabric or the vinyl. * a couple years ago, the levers on the heating/ vent system got stuck on heat...... you'd have to dismantle this and sort out the cables. * the parking brake tends to stick if left on too many days/ weeks. I solved this by only leaving it in neutral and using a rock. (there is no "Park") * Some of the chrome trim clips got displaced and will need replacing on one rear door. It runs like a champ- I used to get about 15 mpg around town and 22-24 on the highway. It would cruise at 75 and felt like riding around on your sofa. Very smooth. Power steering and brakes. I will miss it, but it needs a better home than my carport. I think this car is more rare than a 2 door-- nobody kept the 4-doors. I've never seen another one like it. I go to a lot of car shows and the Big Fins cars are few and far between. This is your chance to own a classic Fins car without a huge investment. ( Sorry my memory was not so good) *** VIN number is M266102830*** Motor is dusty and a few small drips, but - it's 53 years old!!! It IS the original motor and transmission. *** UN molested car!!! Only thing non- stock is I didn't exactly match the original carpet color, which was sort of dark gray- I put in light gray as it matches the door panels better. *** Yes I can give you time to arrange shipping or flights-- I can pick you up in Missoula or Kalispell. I would trust this car and motor to drive cross country, but NOT the tires, and I will not warranty the tires or any other part of the vehicle. It is 53 years old....
