Vehicle Detail

This listing is for a 1998 Volvo S70 front wheel drive 5-cylinder car. Leather interior, CD/Cassette player, power seats/windows, sunroof. I bought this car in 2007 from a dealer and was the 2nd actual owner of the car (excluding dealers). I have not kept up with the maintenance as I should have and had to get another car for regular heavy commuting, and am now selling this. It's a great overall car, but has several issues: - Front end damage from a low speed fender bender on ice in Colorado. Front bumper pushed in a bit, front of hood slightly bent, front passenger quarter panel dented, passenger headlight cracked, square trailer hitch damage in bumper more towards driver's side. The hood latch on the driver's side has always required me to pull the hood latch, lift the hood slightly, pull the latch again, and then the hood will rise enough to grab the handle and raise the hood. This could be fixed with a new latch when making cosmetic repairs (if desired). - Rear end damage from the same fender bender as above: Rear bumper pushed down a bit. Area of paint "broken off" from the accident. I sprayed authentic Volvo paint bought from the dealer, but the differences in the old and new paints is noticeable when looking, but better than the dark grey of the bumper underneath. - Front driver's seat has a 10" hole from the leather separating. The rest of the interior is fine, and this isn't a tough fix to get it repaired. The center shifter console area had the wood grain-like plastic break, showing the grey underneath. The dash itself is fine. - The first owner smoked in the car, so there's still the smell of smoke in given situations (car in hot sun, vents, etc) -**Mechanical Problems** - First and foremost - this car did not pass Colorado emissions for NOx, and therefore will not pass California or other states with emissions tests without some attention. Check to see if your state has a law where you can spend a set amount on emissions repairs and be given a waiver to allow a vehicle to be registered. There was a Check Engine code that I learned had to do with a fan under the battery that helped dilute the catalytic converter air, and with all of these engines this valve eventually failed not allowing the fan to work. I can't tell you that it's only this, so as far as emissions go, it may need a new catalytic converter or more. Sorry I can't provide more details, but I couldn't afford my mechanic's quote for this fan that for me (at the time) did not change the way the car drove. - Secondly - The A/C compressor works, and makes nice cold air. But last month the fan quit blowing that nice cold air. I was already past the point of putting any money into the car, so I didn't get it fixed. I did see some on ebay and other sites for $60 and up, although a mechanic may charge a bit more for it. Again, it's not the compressor - only the fan. - Thirdly - The engine mounts need replaced. I had a local Volvo dealer check out some popping that my wheels were making when I turned. I thought it was bad CV joints, but they said it's the engine mounts causing it to make the sound. One of the CV boots had the rubber crack so it would need either a new boot or could need a new CV joint if required. In 2009 the tensioner bearings in the timing system failed, causing the belt to go slack which resulted in the pistons hitting the valves. I had to replace all 20 valves and opted for a good head bought from California. I had all of the valve seals replaced and the new head installed. This was done maybe 40,000 miles ago. At this time I got a new timing belt, water pump, tensioner bearings, and other timing system parts. I can't say enough about how impressed I was with this car in the snow. It has a "W" transmission setting that prevents accelerating too quickly and helps "brake" the engine when going down hills. I saw a number of 4-wheel drive cars spin out in front of me on snowpack, yet I never had a problem. The accident that damaged the front and rear was a situation resulting in a super-heavy blizzard while heading down I-70 from the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado going towards Vail. I currently have Michelin X-Ice tires on it, but they'll need replaced in the near future. The front still have tread but the rear are worn (not critical, but in need of replacement soon). The brakes also need new pads. I got new front rotors a couple/few years back so they should be ok - may need machined at the next brake job, but still have life in them. I do have to add oil in between oil changes. All-in-all, this is a good car, but I couldn't bear to let it go for nothing as a trade-in on my latest car. I have the title, it's clear and clean, and am looking for cash and/or trade. I would be open to trade for many things along with cash including boats, kayaks, surfboard, skis, motorcycle, guitars, cameras and related video equipment (tripods, lenses, etc). If you are interested in negotiating a trade, please contact me so we can work out the details and still conduct the transaction securely through eBay.
