Up for your consideration is a 1998 Orion II regional Transit Bus Conversion. I have had countless diesels in my life, and many of them Cummins 5.9's But hands down this is the best starting running engine of them all hands down. Even if its cold, less than one second of cranking, and its running! Despite the high mileage, I am certain the engine has been redone because of how good it runs. Same with the Allison Transmisson. The original 21 pax seating arrangement was removed and replaced with 15 reclining seats out of a 737 airliner. The original seats go with it as well. The airline seats come out very easily with a few bolts. The back row comes out really quick to make use of the rear door. The bus has kneeling capibilities front and rear. When you lower the back of the bus to the ground, the floor is only about 10" off the ground. There is a automatic ramp that folds down so you can load any toy or motorcycle that you can fit through a 38" wide door. The front of the bus also lowers as well and the front 34" wide door also has an automatic ramp you can use to load toys or for handycap vehicles. The Engine is a Cummins 6BT 5.9 Turbo Diesel and is located under the drivers seat at a slight angle. Power is transmitted via Allison 5 speed Tramsmission to the front wheel drive axle. The bus has Air Ride suspension. The Unibody construction is of Stainless Steel, this baby wont ever rust out. The fenders and wheel wells are fibreglass. If you stripped the stainless to bare metal.. this bus would look great! The bus has dual air conditioners and the air has recently been serviced. it also has radiant and forced air heat which also works quite well. All four tires are NEW and have less than 300 miles on them. The bus has recently been serviced by a truck shop and is ready to go. Top speed is about 62-65 MPH. I believe it has a speed limiter on it so if you could figure out how to bypass that, it would go alot faster as it has pleanty of power and is Super Quiet. We purchased this bus as a toy hauler and party bus. It is easily configured for either. You can fit 3 Harleys in there and still have pleanty of room for 6 adults to ride inside too. The bus handles great, and rides smooth as a cloud. Its very fun to drive and the visability is awesome. It has a look that only a mother could love, and the paint is nothing to write home about, but buy it and decorate it to your own theme and have an extremely well built vehicle that you can use for anything. This bus is built by Orion, This is not one of those cheap fibreglass conversion busses that squeak and rattle as they go down the road and everything is built out of cheap RV grade junk parts. This bus was made to last and give many miles of good service. Its built like a tank but rides like a Cadilac and is as much fun to drive as a Ferrarii... well.. a very big Ferrarii. The bus is 28' long and only about 9' tall. Due to its short stance and low wind profile, It handles in the wind like a family car.
