THE OVERVIEW Offered for an appreciating new owner is this rare collectible classic 1974 BMW 2002! Finished in "pastellblau" in what is believed to be ALL ORIGINAL paint over "bone" vinyl interior, this car is truly a VIRGIN find for the Bimmerphile, classic car collector or someone who wants a cool little appreciating sunny day driver. A car is only original once and this unrestored California blue license plate iconic 2002 is the epitome of that. I recently acquired this car from the original owner. while I had to turn it into the DMV to get registered in my name, I took a color copy of the original small California pink slip title. Aside from a good cleaning and respray of the wheels, this car is as I got it. This car features the 2.0 liter inline four cylinder engine mated to the factory 4 speed manual transmission. Stopping power is provided by disks in front and drums rear. Just to put it into perspective, this car can be bought for about the cost of the sales tax alone on a quickly-depreciating and far less unique new BMW three series sedan! THE BODY AND TRIM The body and trim of this classic double 02 is in extremely original condition overall. This car is absolutely structurally rust-free with superb shock towers front and rear. The paint is worn and somewhat tattered with a patina expected from an untouched nearly forty year-old car. There is some pimpling on the paint on the roof and other worn and blemished areas. I wanted to keep it honest as it is and not a freshly-painted example. The new owner may choose to do that for hm or herself though of course. The 13" steel wheels received a silver repaint and just got new BMW roundel stickers. There is a cracked spot on one of the black rubber accordian pieces and the original three-d ceramic roundel badges are worn. I wanted to keep them vintage and not replace them with the newer smooth ones. The original front windshield glass has a crack toward the passenger side. The driver side mirror glass just cracked THE INTERIOR The interior of this classic BMW is in good to very good mostly original condition throughout. The 38 year-old headliner is near perfect, the berber loop carpets are very nice [there is some cracking in the litle rubber matting piece] as are the door panels and rear deck piece. The dash has some heat cracking, there is no rado but two round speakers in the door. The seat upholstery has been nicely redone and comfortable. The heat puts out hot air though the fan does not work on different speeds, all gauges light up and work well, the horn and blinkers and lights are all good and the odometer, typical of these cars, is inop. The original steering wheel has some cracking on the rim. THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE This classic 2002 starts runs and drives VERY well! The engine runs beautifully smooth with the correct factory sound. The transmission shifts VERY well and smooth free of any of the usual second gear grinding. The clutch pedal travel is lovely and the suspension is super smooth, quiet and supple free of any clunks, rattles or pulls. This car is truly a joy to drive with its eager revving accelleration, confident handling and open airy cabin. It is easy to see why the iconic 2002 put BMW on the map as the benchmark sport sedan!
